I find myself with more cars than garages, so I started thinking about selling my heavily modded ’83 308QV GTS. This car has spent most of its life racing, first on long distance road races than more recently, doing track days with the Ferrari club.

Mods include Electromotive TEC3 with EFI and crank fire ignition, oversized intake manifold with a 90mm TB, front mounted oil coolers. An Accusump oil system in the trunk and fire suppression throughout. Oversized Coleman Mark IV rotors and calipers with a dual master Tilton adjustable brake system. Completely rebuilt suspension with urethane bushings. 16” wheels - 8” front, 10” rears with lug nuts, not lug bolts. The engine and trans were completely rebuilt 2K miles ago. All rubber hoses, water and fuel, have been replaced. Car has light weight bumpers front and rear, deep front spoiler, and adjustable SuperTrapp mufflers. Car was completely repainted in 2007 and 4 years ago, I “retired” the car from track duty and installed a “stock” interior including new carpets and redyed seats, console, etc.

She runs great and I would have no qualms driving it across country.

So my question to you all is what do you think it’s worth? And yes, I know it’s worth what someone is willing to pay, but some honest opinions would be welcome.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Looks like 328 seats. Nice ride I've never seen it around the area.

No original parts. Rear fenders have been slightly flared for larger tires.

No one seems to want to offer up figures. I've been following the market pretty closely for some time now, so I'll throw in my $0.02 and hopefully it's helpful.

Clean, original GTS QVs seem to be selling for $45k-$55k. Cars with needs are selling for slightly below that range, and exceptional cars for slightly above.

For a car like yours, there are three types of potential buyers: 1) the buyer who sees all of those mods as things he has to spend time and money to correct; 2) the buyer who sees all of the mods as imperfections that he can live with; and 3) the buyer who sees the mods as desirable improvements. None of these people are going to pay more for your car than they could for a very tight, original car, but they will each be expecting a different amount of discount from that number. Ideally, of course, you want to reach the #3s.

So, assuming you can reach those #3 buyers out there, my best estimate is that one of them would probably be willing to pay around $45K for your car, maybe a little more. If all you can find are #2 buyers, then around $40k. And you don't even have to worry about the #1 guys, because there are plenty of other cars out there for them at the moment.

So there you have it. Hope that helps and good luck!

    Thanks Wayne.

Your estimates are more than I was expecting. All in all, the car has had over $150K spent on modifications over its lifetime. I listed only the major mods - there are more including a set of mounted slicks, 6 point harnesses, special sump baffle, Birdman fuse box, new street tires. The list goes on and on. I also should have noted that the engine was rebuilt to stock. It was my intension to either turbocharge or supercharge the engine. I have all the parts to supercharge, and most of the parts to either a single or dual turbocharge. Any of those options would add another 100 hp.

Ideally, the car would best suit someone who wants a relatively inexpensive Ferrari track car that they can also drive on the street. For track use, I would reinstall racing seats and a roll bar with 6 point harnesses. (I never go on the track without a HANS device.)

If the engine wasn't rebuilt with forged pistons, don't even think about turbo or supercharging it unless your are willing to rebuild it again. Good luck.

    Excellent assessment from Wayne.
I am in the 3 group, but not the 308 model, like the color a lot.

Fantastic colors, but I would fall into El Wayne's "#1" category - big project to put stock, so I'd be well under $50K if I were contemplating an offer.

But, blu sera GTS is the IMHO the most desirable color/configuration of the 308/328 run.

I would be a #3, but the car is in the wrong country, the steering wheel's on the wrong side. BTW, those wide wheels look great - what are they?

I guess I would fall in with the #1 buyers. That said I would still price your car in the high $30s . Beautiful car so don't sell your self short.

If you sell it for high 30s, some dealership is going to spend $1k detailing it, then ask $55k for it. That Blu Sera color has the potential to start a bidding war if the car is clean (not necessarily correct) enough.

IMO what mods do market-wise is not necessarily related to the price. It's more related to the buyer pool. It's the same thing as trying to sell a green 3x8 vs a red one. The issue is simply that there will probably be 20 buyers interested in a red car compared to one interested in a green car. THat doesn't mean that the green car will sell for less. Heck, to a collector it might sell for more based on rarity. But it does mean that the seller will probably be waiting a lot longer to make a sale.

Same is true re mods. If the mods are what a buyer specifically wants, then the car could be worth as much as an unmolested car of the same year/mileage/condition - possibly even more. But there won't be many of those buyers around so it may take a while for the sale to take place.

I apologize for straying off topic, but this car didn't reside in the Atlanta area in the mid/late 80s did it? I recall seeing one this color often around Stone Mountain as a kid..

Not to my knowledge. I purchased the car from the Southwest around 2000. At that time, I spoke to the previous 2 owners, both were from the SW (Arizona / Nevada IIRC).
