Once again throwing comments out that you have no idea about. You know as well as I do that you thought the 355 really had a neoprene head gasket.
I have weighed the air bags, steering wheel and sensors in a 355 total was 17 lbs, and there is not a couple hundred yards of wiring either. again. not much to notice in a street car.
I wasn't talking about the rack it doesn't weigh much different than a std. rack. I was talking about the pump, fluid, res.and tubing around 15 lbs. Again in a street car you will never know its there by its weight or by whatever power it takes to turn it.
The question for the thread is which 355 year was *best* (and why) Well, the very early 1995 355's are best because they weigh a little less, put out a little more power, are more easily tunable, and have fewer things that can go wrong. That's not to say that the differences are dramatic. Just, "which is best." Any properly tuned/maintained 355 is going to be a hoot to drive. But which model year is "best?!"
The OBD1 2.7 actually system weighs more; there are 2 ECUs, 2 wiring harnesses, 2 air flow sensors. The 2.7 does have air temp sensor its in the air flow meter. There are a few added sensors in the 5.2 but there weight wouldn't add up to more than a lb. or so As to your 2nd comment....So, what does that have to do with the question at hand here. Once again if it does, re: MAF(Ferrari never said it did altho I would agree it would have to) you wouldn't notice it on the street. From I have read from bosch at wide open throttle the info from 2 02 sensors are not used for the purpose of fuel economy or emissions, similar to the 2.7 system.
As I said above it is subjective based on color inside and out, whether coupe or spyder etc. not on the items you mentioned. In my opinion if its not a challenge model what's the point.
M5.2 is designed to nail emissions. M2.7 is more open to tuning for HP. So when the question is "Which is better" I lean toward M2.7. Your mileage may vary.
Like I said....here we go again. Essentially, everyone thinks their car is best. Of course, if you're looking for unbiased perfection, you can't go wrong with the 1999. Hahahaha!
Well, the very early 1995 355's are best because they weigh a little less[/QUOTE] Had anyone weighted their MY95 on a scale? MY99 weight in at 3167lbs. w/o driver and a little bit more than 1/4 tank of gas. That is with highflow cats and Tubi. The OEM weights a ton more than Tubi. My owner manual say curb weight at 3262lb. for MY99.
Personally if I were in the market (and I am not!), I would look for a good 1995 model with 20K+ miles on the clock and decent service history. Preferably one with the valve guides done and aftermarket header, exhaust, cats. The 1995 models are discounted more than the 97-99 models so it is a good bargain.
I would get a '98 or '99. They had the option of the F1 which I would get. They also had more options on them. Badges or shields, challenge grill and others. I had a '98 and loved it.
