Whats everyone reading right now?

I tend to read in spurts. I go several months without cracking a book then I knock out several over a month or two then repeat. Currently I'm working my way thru Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time (http://www.amazon.com/Brief-History-Time-Stephen-Hawking/dp/0553380168). Recently I've read Formula One (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=244557), Freakonomics (no link needed I bet ), and Turning of the Tide: How One Game Changed the South (http://www.amazon.com/Turning-Tide-Game-Changed-South/dp/1931722943).

For Father's Day I got a gift card to one of the big chain book stores and am thinking about getting a copy of Art of War. Anyone have a recommendation on an edition/translation?

 

We share a similar theme (money, cars, and beer) but I don't think there is any overlap. Below is part of my (mostly unread) collection. The "History of Beer" is still boxed with some of my other books after a recent move.

I rarely read fiction anymore. Too often the storyteller cannot hold my attention and I feel i could improve their story. So I only read fiction if it comes highly recommended by friends I know I share similar tastes with.

last fiction book I read was...um ..well I cant remember the last one. But my favorite is A Boys Life by Robert McCammon.

I read tons of non fiction. Currently reading biography on Russ Meyer, a biography on Pablo Escobar and Meltdown: A Free-Market Look at Why the Stock Market Collapsed, the Economy Tanked, and Government Bailouts Will Make Things Worse by Thomas E. Woods Jr. and Ron Paul

 

Ironic you mention your dad because the Clancy books are more of a tribute to my dad, who was a big fan. I've only made it thru one of Clancy's books, Red Storm Rising. Grisham on the other hand I am a huge fan and have read most of the books shown. As for the Thinker, my parents and I went to a Rodin exhibit in Memphis in the late 80s and these days I "think" the "Gates of Hell" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gates_of_Hell) would be more fitting.

I'd really like to start reading a few books, just never continue once I start. I get side tracked and never back on track.

The last book I read was The Last Lecture.

 

Into Thin Air and K2 currently

 

I think it's a great read. I highly recommend it.

It's amazing how someone can have such a positive outlook on everything in life. Every little downside he found positives in it. On days I wish feeling depressed or just lifeless I would read a chapter or two and start feeling better. The whole book makes you smile.

I just finished The Amber Room by Steve Berry. Its the first one I've read of his, it was pretty good.

Currently in the middle of
Straight from the gut - Jack Welch. Better than I thought it would be, but the second half is getting tough to get through.
The Million-Dollar Financial Services Practice: A Proven System for Becoming a Top Producer - David Mullen. Very good.
Selling to the Affluent by Thomas Stanley. Not helpful

Interesting note - my wife's maiden name is Shackleton and she is related to the explorer.

 

Kill Bin Laden by Dalton Fury. He is an ex-Delta Force guy who went in to Afghanistan after 9-11 to get Bin laden. He was told to have his guys covertly kill him and leave the body with the Afghans. Very cool and interesting stuff.

Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov

 

Anyone ever read the BS Levy books? I loved "Last Open Road" and "Montezuma's Ferrari". I stopped paying attention and just realized he released two more books, with a 5th due out this summer. Great automotive reading--very entertaining.

I like to read sci-fi/fantasy and nonfiction. I just re-read 'Rendezvous with Rama' by Arthur C. Clarke. Great book. Going to start the sequel soon.

Currently reading 'The Measure of All Things'. Story about how the meter was calculated, and the error that was made. Fascinating.

On deck is 'Stardust'. Loved the movie, heard the book is better (naturally!).

Sometime this year I would like to read 'The Hobbit' and LOTR again. I used to read it about 1x per year since around high school, maybe 20 times total. Might have to buy a new copy, one of the books is falling apart. Loved the movies but.......

 

Currently in the middle of "Film Art" a great film textbook my girlfriend gave me, since I'm really into movies, scripts all that kind of thing. Good book/textbook, but I wish it had more on scriptwriting.

Bit over halfway in Hunter S. Thompson's "The Proud Highway", but I've shelved that for a while. Great indepth look into HST's early life.

Also just got the last six Harry Potter books from my dad who never reads them. I read then a lot when I was younger, and I think ill pick them back up, just gotta go grab the first one.

 

Looks like I have about the same tastes in books as you. It's been 5 to 6 years since the last time I read Lord of the Rings, but picked it up again last week. Halfway through.
