yup...battle egg has entered the late innings...but the effort continues. Today is hash browns, 2 eggs and crispy bacon (from the same local rancher I got the lamb from in the dinner thread...I have to say his bacon is fantastic, his beef was not great and his lamb was "meh"). Second photo is after I realized I'd forgotten the most important egg topper - cholula! And I grabbed the bagel from the toaster. Was all pretty darn yummy. Image Unavailable, Please Login My choice for vanilla is on the right! Just tried some of my wife’s siggi’s again. Interesting stuff...
It's an acquired taste. It's got a bit of pucker to it. Took me a few cups to get used to Siggis. Now other yogurt tastes too sweet to me. Vanilla is good with a little cinnamon sprinkled in...T
So Battle Egg is over - I finally finished the eggs my neighbor gave me. I thought you guys might find this interesting as I did. On the final day I wanted 3 eggs but only had 2 of the farm eggs left, so I added one store bought large size cage free organic egg...gee, guess which one it is: Image Unavailable, Please Login Finished meal: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dude...By the time Ania returns, your cholesterol level is going to over 400! There's a new employee-owned chain in DFW called Winco. They have great prices on bulk foods. The wife bought some of their apple pecan granola. Other was almond raisin. Had the former with a little vanilla Siggis. T
That looks great! The gf is really excited to spend her first thanksgiving here in the USA next month...she's already planning to make pumpkin pie...I happen to be one of those folks that love it (in my experience its one of those love it or hate it foods). Can't wait...
It can be sorta fun and funny living with a new arrival to your country...Ania gets excited to try new American things, and then makes them a ton of times in a row until she is tired of them. This week its American style pancakes. We had them for a nice Sunday brunch yesterday with some eggs and bacon and bloody mary's (another recent discovery by her): Image Unavailable, Please Login
I came home with these - been having a craving. In truth, wasn't as great as I was hoping! I think because I like my coffee plain and strong, and especially without sugar. So, it tasted like what we used to call regular coffee, i.e. with cream and sugar. More coffee taste and lower sugar may have done the trick. Fortunately, my existential yogurt crisis was helped by the fact that it was in the bargain bin at Kroger, 50% off! T
And...yup, that's a homemade bagel in the above pic...a new batch appeared (happy Arizonaitalian!): Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can you share info about your homemade bagels? "The pheasants are beneath me." - SoCal to az "I have very few pet peeves in life . . . " - PeterS "Change is inedible" - fc2
Sure...its surprisingly easy to get these...usually sometime around 7am I am woken by the smell of baking bagels and then "boom" they appear. Easy peasy! There are rumors that Ania must work on them starting the day before and then had to cook them two different ways in the morning before my part comes in. So, perhaps we will call it a 50/50 effort split Seriously, here is the recipe she uses: Ingredients ( yield 8 bagels): 1 pound all-purpose flour 1 cup warm water 1 tbs honey 1 tsp instant yeast (she can't get the block/fresh yeast here that she uses in Europe sadly) 1 tsp salt toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, pink Himalayan salt, oregano, dried parsley Liquid for boiling the bagels: 3 cups of water 2 tbs honey 2 tbs baking soda 2 tsp salt Preparation: Put the flour in a big bowl. In a smaller bowl mix warm water with yeast, salt, honey, pour to the bowl with flour and stir to combine. Knead for 3 mins, than cover it and let it rest for 5 mins, knead again for 3 mins. Cover bowl with a damp towel and let it rest for 1 hour at room temperature. Then knead for a few minutes, place in a big bowl and cover the top of the bowl tightly with saranwrap (leaving room for the dough to expand in the bowl), put into the fridge overnight. In the morning take out the dough from the fridge, knead for one minute, divide into 8 pieces. Form each piece into a bagel shape (with 1 inch hole in the center). Let them rest for about 1 and half hour. Preheat the oven to 390F. In a big pot bring the liquid to a boil. Boil the bagels for 1 minute each side in the liquid. Remove and sprinkle with toppings. Bake for 20 mins
Yes! And the icing one was an Italian version (I think). Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Italian version makes sense, given JPII's relocation to the vatican... I am looking forward to my next Pope's cake at Christmas in Krakow
