Ok, a little catch up (we were on the road from WY to AZ for our annual flight south, so no time for posting pics lately).

Ania discovered Clam Chowder recently...so she had to make it at home. Was pretty darn good! (she made some crouton as well). We doubled the clams over the amount called for in the recipe and it still wasn't near enough. Next time we 4x it and put large whole ones.

Next up, two new discoveries, combined into one dish. I introduced her to a "Fried Green tomato BLT" recently (super yummy at a local diner) and she saw tomatillos in the market and asked what they were and what we could do with them. She then came up with Fried Green Tomatillos. She also made a Chipotle Aioli dipping sauce. The sauce was good, the fried green tomatillos were odd (being honest, not something I would make again).

A fun part of leaving for the winter is successfully cleaning out the fridge without throwing anything out. So the last few meals are always a mismash. Last night was some local beef from a rancher in our valley and whatever leftover veggies we had. Beef was as good as it looks :)

Another "experiment" was "corn pudding" (she saw a can of creamed corn I had in the pantry and wondered what the heck it was and what one could do with it. Google provided an answer). This was surprisingly tasty and something I would gladly eat again.

Tomatillos tend to go mushy pretty quickly once they're cooked. The chowder on the other hand, yummy. It's been too long since I did a fish stew or cioppino.

On our drive between AZ and WY each spring and fall, there is a little town of Kanab, Utah that we pass thru that happens to have two excellent restaurants. We ate at Sego last week and it was fantastic, so I am going to post the multi-course dinner we shared there. (If you ever find yourself in Kanab, try Sego or Rocking V)

Cauliflower with parmesan, sea salt, white BBQ sauce

Shrimp with mango puree, mandarin orange, tomato, salsa verde, pepitas, tajin

"Grilled Cheese" with confit lemon, sage sausage, agave (sorta like Raclette)
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Scallops with Celery root puree , beechwood mushroom, smoked parmesan, parsley (how the heck did they get that sear on them? I can never get anywhere near that)
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Beef Filet espresso chili rub, ancho and agave steak sauce, horseradish cream sauce, parmesan potatoes (beyond good, one of the best dishes I've had this year for sure)
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Lemon tart with cream cheese ice cream (was deconstructed which I didn't expect, and was the only "meh" in the dinner)

Baked pork chop with apples. Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. What a good food day, and a long day overall. I’m done. Especially after an over four hour commute in/out of DC.

Last night I made a bacon cheeseburger. Used the Kirkland Angus beef patties. With the big mac sauce it was pretty good. Tonight is pesto night. adding some scallops and shrimp.

I've got some sort of crud/cold so bought some soup the other night on the way home from work. Too lazy to make my own but Progresso creamy tomato with Penne was pretty good. Had Minestrone last night. Tonight it's a burger/dog cookout/potluck at work. Should be lots of food.

    Happy Halloween!!!

Man, y'all are eating like stars and I'm chomping on salad. Oh well, I did have some brisket - oak smoked by yours truly - for lunch from the 21 lb brisket I smoked a while back!

    It’s funny.
You get get anything else here
    Literally from the whole world.
And it’s all very very good.
I’ve been around the world and compared.

    Except those two things.
    Weird eh?

I'm surprised Vancouver doesn't have Mexican restaurants. Mexico is close as a vacation destination. Most of the farm labor here is now Mexican. So you'd think we'd see at least a taco truck or something. Eastern Washington State has a massive Mexican population, so they have several decent Mexican restaurants there. Several taco trucks as well...………… I forget to get Mexican when there though.

Tonight Ania made dinner (I sat on my ass and watched football) and came up with Cous Cous “Tabbouleh” and Sauteed Yellow Squash Tagliatelle (I say Pappardelle) with evoo, tomatoes and garlic. Both were very good. Served with a white burgundy, was also good and a good match. Dessert was microwave smores :)

Thanks, Ron, much too kind. The pizza bianco /three cheese pizza was a tad overcooked, but tasty nonetheless.
