I ended up having some chicken wrap deal at Applebee's.
Haven't been to an Applebee's in decades. Wife and I used to go there a lot, before we became suburban sophisticates. Image Unavailable, Please Login Leftover pic from last week when my phone was on the fritz. Home cooked roto chicken. Nothing better. Image Unavailable, Please Login Indian inspired soup. Had some lentils leftover, plus a turnip, add diced celery, chard, chicken broth. Spices. Came out thick like a stew after adding the lentils, so I made some rice and ladled it over that. T
Applebee's isn't bad, its good when the other options are Olive Garden or Red Robin. Last night made a chili like dish with beans! Tonight is burger special at Triple O's.
Worked with a guy who thought Red Robin was the best thing going. I have never been. When we were courting, there was an Applebee's across street from my apartment, so it was convenient. There was also a Mexican place called El Chico that I thought was good. But, then I moved to Texas and married a Texan, and learned what Tex Mex was all about! T
I'm going back on a diet, so plan is mostly salads now. I might buy some tuna for tonight's salad. Or get some tuna and salmon sashimi to go with the salad.
Been traveling a bunch, so haven't been able to post any meals until now....I'll post several here coming up... First up, a meal we made before leaving Scottsdale. We were scrounging around the cabinets attempting to use up whatever we had in the fridge, etc before we left. We found a few odd-ball things, including a can of chickpeas, some yogurt and herbs left in the fridge, some flour in the cabinet, and some other stuff. So we decided to make falafal and pitas and tzatziki for the first time. Did a great job of cleaning out the kitchen and the meal turned out pretty good! First stop on our trip was Krakow. These are Ania's Mom's homemade pirogi. Light and fluffy, not hockey pucks! I always look forward to these when I get here! These are pirogi ruskie (cheese and potato) with a bit of fried onion in butter. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Next was Easter in Krakow. A deeply Catholic country, they have a unique tradition on the day prior to Easter. They carry a basket of food (with sausages and bread and lots of boiled eggs) to the church and have the food blessed by the priest (with the sprinkling of holy water). Then they come home and eat the blessed food as a family. Its a very nice tradition and you see literally everyone on the street carry a basket with a lace cloth over the food to the church. Was nice to see.
If one is lucky, there is a festival on the main square in Krakow when you visit. They set up the a number of traditional booths with arts and crafts and traditional foods and beer. I look forward to timing my visits so that I can go to one of these whenever possible: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I also posted a separate thread with the meals from last week in London. I think there are 9 meals and restaurant reviews there. Thirty years ago I thought of London as perhaps the worst major city for foodies. Now - as has been well documented over the past decade plus - its among the very best. So many types of cuisine...love it. Looking forward to living there starting in October! https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/eating-my-way-thru-london.599515/#post-146586249
10? Come on, I know firsthand you can do better than that Think of it like a bbq tour - going from food booth to food booth at the Krakow main square...and coming back home to a heaping plate of these pirogies!
Guilty as charged. Make it a bakers dozen for me! Image Unavailable, Please Login Eye of round. 500 F for 20 min (I kid you not!) and then turn off oven. Let sit until it reaches desired internal temp. In our case, medium to medium rare. Slice and then made into a Baltimore specialty, pit beef sammiches. Sweet onions sautéed. Horseradish cream sauce, homemade. Sliced eye of round. I put a generous splash of sriracha on mine. T
More pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login Grilled Texas sweet onions. Image Unavailable, Please Login Final sammich. T
Pizza! Image Unavailable, Please Login Had leftover tomatoes getting long in the tooth, so I added spices, olive oil, a couple sun dried tomatoes, blitzed with a stick blender. Quick simmer. Image Unavailable, Please Login Aforementioned tomato sauce, baby Bella mushrooms, mozz. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, goat cheese. To be honest, this was a tad dry. Next time, sprinkle on a little mozz? T
Pan fried swordfish. It was much better cooked on the grill yesterday. It's on sale for $8/lb. So it's kind of hard to not buy a lot of it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Outstanding. Gotta get a pizza stone for my Egg! I think I've asked, but forgot the answer! Do you prebake your dough, put on toppings, then finish baking? T
Yes, it was probably one of the best meals I've made for under $10. Gotta afford parts costs somehow haha
