ok, I grew up in the country in Tennessee and had "country cooking" every night for "supper" Call it getting older or whatever but I have been feeling a bit nostalgic lately and so today I went by my father's on the way home for work to ask if I could have some fresh vegetables from his garden. He said sure, but knowing that I never really like those things growing up he wanted to know what I was going to do with them. ;)

So the wife and I decided to forego the normal with either restaurant meal or pasta or grilled fish/chicken dinner and make a down home southern style "country supper" :)

    menu :
    Black eyed peas
Mac and cheese (cheated here it was from a box)
    Fried potatoes
    Fried okra
    baked pork chops
    and cornbread

We got to talking about fchat and I said I bet very few of the guys had THIS for dinner !!

So here you go a REAL southern "supper" hehehe

We have such a wide geographic base here, it would be interesting to see what some of you from other parts of the states have for dinner. What did you guys have ?

    ps
I only really liked the mac and cheese, and feel kinda sick,(at least the merlot was good)
I guess some things never change ;)

Looks good John! My supper tonight was kind of without rhyme however it did have reason and that was the fact that I was STARVING when I got home. I worked 12 hours straight today outside in 90+ degree heat so I worked up quite an appetite. I had some leftover food from a visit to my parents so I cooked that up it was two leftover spareribs that had been barbecued and I sliced up and seasoned a potato and fried it up, I made a salad and I also made myself a double cheesebuerger. I still felt a little dehydrated so I stayed away from any alcohol and had a very large glass of ice water. I had 3 nutter butters for desert.

I go for the 1 in pork chops at Outback mostly (w/ orange sauce). Brown rice, salad & baked yeast bread w/ real butter. I’ll rip a deer to the bone for hi quality protein but Outback serves it better. Invite me to dinner please.

I'm baking chicken and potatos in the oven right now. I prefer to make that or baked fish for dinner. Catfish (mmmmmmmmmmmmm) or dover sole with cajun seasoning is always good.

Is the meal you eat at noon called dinner? In rural west Texas, dinner is what you eat around noon, and supper is what you eat in the evening.

update..... don't EVER get the urge to eat "country cooking" when your stomach is not used to it, I STILL feel sick :)

Dave, mostly around here it's breakfast, lunch and dinner,

but older people will say breakfast, dinner, supper.

some mixed up people mostly baby boomers say, breakfast, lunch, supper ;)

    confusing huh ?

With three places within 3 miles, I've never had a pizza take longer than 25 minutes. Of course, the one that I want doesn't deliver out here.

Yeah, this is about 1 mile away, but they said max 20 minutes after I said I would come pick up, so I decided to screw it and sit and wait. And wait, and watch the little league game across the street, and wait, and drink..wait...and then get cold pizza.

Up here in New England, dinner is a bucket of steamers, one or two 1 1/2 pound lobsters, local corn on the cob and a nice chardonnay. Its even better on the beach at sunset.
