What's inside the heat shield of the 355 OEM Y bypass pipe (on a 5.2 Motronic car)? I've never had one apart. Are the pipes and small cats all welded together as one single piece or are they separate components that can be taken apart? I'm guessing its all one piece. Anyone know for sure?

It's all welded together. No separate parts under the heat shield.

Is this true (metallic cats) for all model years? AFAIK, the primary cats were ceramic.
