Seems like a high price for a non-proven engine that has sat for 5 years. I always think that if the part is $900 -- buy it put it in and prove its a runner and the value will genuine. 1985 308 quatralvalve Ferrari
After 5 years of not running, it (having Bosch CIS injection) will need more than just the bodywork fixed (even if all else was perfectly OK when the disuse began). PS One would think that someone selling a QV would get the spelling right in either English or Italiano...
This is hilarious! Small Dent? Ferm on the price? Good Shape?? Whatever this guy is drinking, popping, or smoking is worth more than the car...
I'd only buy it to do a light resto and drive it. I don't have the time or inclination to part it out. I have several piles of Porsche parts to prove that. M
Forget the firm price -- what is it worth.... Maybe if I buy him enough of whatever he's indulging in -- he might loosen the wallet to reality -- I'm new to F-cars -- so I have no idea on $$ -- P-cars -- all over it, just don't know what the market is for something like this. I was thinking 1/2. But without ammo -- there's no way I waste my time even driving there with my trailer and a wad of cash. Mike
From a distance, except for the dent over the parking light, it appears to be a nice car. Then you can ask all the questions, rust, interior, miles, any records, tools, spare, manuals, spare parts. Just because it doesn't start doesn't mean it couldn't be a great barn find.
I'd say its worth low teens but it is hard to put a value on a car with two pictures and not much info.
I would take the current average sale price ($34,000), deduct the cost of the body work necessary, $3000 deduct a set of tires, $2500 deduct a reasonable price to overhaul what else doesn't work.....engine $7000 deduct replacement cost of tools, manuals, spare, anything else missing you now have a reasonable offer.
Good discussions.... This is more or less what I was looking for -- I think you also have to factor in the risk involved. so you have $34 - $12.5 - risk. At $34K you know where you are at, average good running car with little chance for hidden issues because everything is working and you can observe all that is going on. When you have a non-runner -- anything can be hidden -- tranny issues, synchros, AC, valve guides, who knows. BTW, what is your source for the $34K? thanks, Mike
Well, tires are less than half that for good 16", around $800 depending on which brand you go for. Find out what part he says it needs and see if you can scrounge a used one for cheap or borrow one and put it on and try to start it up and see what works/doesn't work. As I said, worth a call at least.
By tires, I was referring to possible basic maintenance, Tires, hoses/antifreeze, oil/filter, used car supprise
The 'small' front dent is the size of a cupholder...about $2 to $3K to repair. $22K is a bit high for a non-running 308 with no indication of work/mileage...way too much risk, even for a project. I would propose about $18K, or get much, much more information (seller seems motivated).
22k is a big maybe, if the engine checks ok. Leakdown each and every one of those cylinders. Also, that front clip repair is going to be very expensive. The metalwork can be fixed but because there are no seams on the front clip then the entire front clip must be painted and hopefully blended to the old paint on the front hood. That's a $6-10k job.
I'm just trying to figure out what a Ferrari is doing in the Killeen/Temple area. Talk about two sh*t towns. Killeen is a trashy Army town. Temple isn't much better. Redneck got in over his head?
Keep in mind that there ARE a few of us who live in trashy Army towns that happen to have Ferraris!! PDG
Talked to owner -- not a lot of details.... I'm #2 on list -- if it's still available come the weekend I'll grab my trailer and take a look. I'm in a unique situation as I have a buddy who has an independent shop. He and I have been rebuilding and racing porsches for several years now. Just looking into something different. Have a little play money and enough aptitude between us to be dangerous. Give me time to finish up my 928 project & 951 track car before tackling this. M
Hey, I'm not knockin' it. I went to flight school in Killeen (highest per capita murder rate in Texas back then) and Temple was a step up from our town when we played ball against them in Highschool. I lived in the second worst town in Texas...Waco. (The first worst is College Station). In all my years roaming central Texas, I only saw 1 Ferrari (a 308 back in the 80's). You had to go to Dallas or Austin to see hot cars.
Oh, and there are "nice" Army towns. I used to live in one of those too...Huntsville, Alabama. But Killeen ain't one o' dem. Niether is Fayetnam, North Carolina.
My guess was that is was owned by someone at Ft Hood who got deployed or TDY'd and just prior it wouldn't start and sat all those years. Not the case -- but I would have believed the story Guess we'll see by weeks end if I'll be back in the Italian saddle.... In my youth (and stupidity) I cut my teeth on a pair of Fiats and a BiTurbo (yeah I know......) Mike
