Before I consign my car to a dealer I'm trying to get a realistic value on my 430. It's a 2007 F430 spider red/black under 4000 miles, never tracked mainly weekend drives to Starbucks......this car needs to be driven. Options include Red calipers, carbon fiber driving and lower cabin zone, daytona electric seats, rear parking sensors, shields, ball polished rims, leather bench, subwoofer, and tire pressure monitor. over $240k retail. No hurry to sell but I have a challenge car that I run at the track, I'm not using it (it sits on a lift in my garage and I have a son who gets his license in June and I think it would be like teasing him with a hot baby sitter!
No need to tease your son, give him the Hot baby sitter....that is all boys fantasy and you can make it happen.
My son turned 16 in January and has ben a great kid. His girlfriend invited him to the cheerleader banquet this week , thus the official first real date. 15 minutes before time to leave, he came up to me and said ," Dad, I am a good kid. I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I make great grades, I think you ought to let me take the R 8 on my date". I looked at him and said,' You know what, you are right", and pitched him the keys. The look on his face was priceless and car was returned home in perfect condition 15 minutes before his curfew.
So I have this situation. I have this 17 year old son, junior in high school and the prom is coming up in May. Last year I let him take the Porsche 911 Twin Turbo to the prom as a 16 year old. Good kid, good grades, starting goalie of the H.S. hockey team. He returned the Porsche on time in perfect condition. Well, I sold the Porsche and am now buying an F430. Should have the car soon. I told him about it and his FIRST question was, "can I take it to the prom?" Any thoughts?
If you have an agreed value with your insurance company go right ahead! It's still just a car and prom doesn't happen everyday. He will also remember it forever and so will his friends.
Had a similar situation in the 80's involving my son and prom. It was not a spider, but was a very rare 84 Boxer at the time ,which I had recently imported to the USA. After all the planning, anxiety, excitment, my son the night before prom bailed on his own accord to use the Boxer. It was really funny! Docf
+1 and maybe a bit higher. I have seen some 07 coupes still fetching 150-155k. My guess is 165, being that its a spider.
First value. Recently bought an '06 spider with most options (including CCBs) with almost 9K miles for $140,500, so if yours is close to perfect with 4K miles and an '07, I'd say you should get $150K as a minimum, but I'd ask $155K, especially if you're not in a hurry. And would try to sell it myself before any consignment deal. Good luck. As far as lending a ferrari or any other high-end car to a a teenager, I'd NEVER do that. Even less if less than 18, and absolutely out of the question if it was going to be left at any place at night, let alone a prom. Besides, I personally think you're not doing the kids any favors, but to each his own. I'd only let them drive it with me on the side, and at 18 or over. Good day.
I have a 612 i am about to trade in the next 5 to 6 months. I want to replace it for a 2007 430 spider. I have really been looking and right now, a good options under 8000 mile spiders are selling at dealers for 160s with asking price of 170s. Thats retail!!
A 2007 spider with 4k mi for $140k!? I have been looking for months and have not seen one of those! Please show me where I could find one.
Took the car down off the lift today for a Starbuck run. Yes its a spider and it turned 3600 miles as I was cruising along the bay this morning. Now I know why I bought the car!!!!! Very different experience from the Challenge but then again you don't have to climb over that pesky roll cage and its got no top! I have been doing a little more research and am not seeing number quite as low as some of you are talking about on low mileage no story cars but I'll take everyones word on it. Oh well...... top down, perfect weather, wife asked me to take her to lunch in it......maybe the kids going to get a chance to drive it (not to the prom.....I'll be sitting in the passenger seat).
I wasn't implying a death type of crash. To be honest I was talking about a mere bumper rub or hitting a curb. Both of these can hurt the value of the car. I vote no as well, nothing good will come of it. Just playing around looking to get a few laughs in. I would never put a value on anyones life. You made a great point though. Why did this thread continue here? The quote from the second post highjacked it.
