With La Ferrari swooping into the automotive world, what lies next for the the pinnacle of the Prancing Horses top of the line limited series? With an expected "XX" model coming in the next couple of years, the program usually is a development for the next super car. With that being said, many believe this is the swan song for V12s in Ferrari supercars (in the f50, Enzo etc lineage). So how will Ferrari play it out , and when will the next arrive. I must give Ferrari credit as it is the only car maker I can think of that if the car doesn't appeal to you at first then it can grow on you. At first I thought La Ferrari was a sexy beast but a worthy successor to the Enzo? Maybe was my initial reaction. Most including me were skeptical of the 458ish headlights that now have become Ferrari's generic headlights( I hate to use Ferrari and generic in the same sentence).

So bottom line, whats next. I hate to seem rushy but with Bugatti coming with this 1600bhp "SuperVeyron" and an expected new iteration of the P1 next year, where do we go, how do we fight. It reminds me when the Enzo came out. Even thought there were a few more powerful supercars out they really couldnt match the great "Enz" all around. Then comes Koenigsegg, Bugatti, Saleen, SSC, and a bunch of others that set the Enzo's power and weight as a benchmark and seemed to have surpassed it at the time( CCR, s7TT, etc). So what is next? I predict the new successor to come out in around 9-10 years time and to be the F75 for it will be the Prancing Horse's 75th Anniversary. It should be called either F75, or Enzo La Seconda for Enzo the second.

It may seem silly to be making so many bold predictions as we arent even a week old off the unveiling of La Ferrari, but the competition is stiff and with a 1500bhp Venom, 1600bhp reduced weight Superveyron and a plethora of others mega exotics such as the Tuatara and others. But we need to keep ourselves ahead of the trend not just with looks and laptimes , but acceleration also. I dont want a repeat of a decade ago where all of these guys came and trumped us straight line. I am a lap time advocate but we need to have a car with superlatives. I am proud of La Ferrari but we need to stake our ground and make sure La Ferrari can carry us on for another decade. I sincerely hope this XX version comes with a street legal form( anywhere from 3-25 produced), totally stripped (no AC, radio etc) and a higher output. And a track version akin to the Red Bull X1 approach, NO COMPROMISES ! I would love feedback from you all as to what direction to take, from every angle. THANK YOU.

I'm not yet bored with LaFerrari and am still learning about it.

But with the F12berlinetta last year and now LaFerrari, perhaps the next thing to watch for later this year or next year is the introduction of the more raw, track-oriented version of the 458. We are pretty certain there will be one, just when and what it will be is the question.

I think this may be the last 12. I think power will be 50/50 electric/gas. Might even be higher on the electric side of the ratio........

That's what I was wondering. So will the XX developmental program be a tt v8? Time will tell.

True , Im thinking Frankfurt. As it would be along with the timeline. 458 successor is due to be unveiled in a year from September as a 2015 model. No confirmation just going along with the timeline pattern.

I was under the impression that the main reason for adding electric systems to these top end Ferraris was that it would allow them to extend the life of V12's for a while longer.

I wonder did they reached limit of engine power from F12 Berlinetta (800 HP). Maybe FXX will be improved through bigger KERS capacity?

Not the max. My guess is an conservative output approach as I do believe they can achieve 1000bhp naturally aspirated reliably. As seen with Mr Zahir Rana's ZXX Enzo.

I think they are too image sensitive. Next decade is all about hybrids and full on electrics. Combined with pressure from dumb governments I just dont see companies of this size keeping V12 out there.....

If a major battery development(and its possible) takes place its game over for gas imo....

So, can we expect from new LaFerrari FXX output about 1200 HP (1000 HP from combustion engine + 200 HP from KERS)?

    No!!

In any event it is not and will not be about absolute power but rather power that can be used. For example, a 599 XX Evo with less power than an FXX and about 50 kgs more weight is faster.....

The LaF XX will have huge power, but what is more interesting is that it will be usable. This means tyre development, aerodynamics and electronics as well as weight savings.

The thermal / kers balance may well also evolve from the road to the track as constraints will be very different

The other issue about the future is really what can you want with simply more power? In today's world adding more and more power really makes no sense

Thought the whole SuperVeyron thing was a no-go...? Google the term--the latest article is from Autoblog, and they confirm that Bugatti says no. The rest of the rumor articles are all prior that date.

I predict smaller and lighter will start trending again. Power will hover around the 900hp mark for another decade while average weight drops (save Koenigsegg and Bugatti).

The last word on power for this generation of hypercars might be the Tuatara, should it ever debut. I think it will be polarizing, though...I don't think it will handle as well as LaF, 918, P1...the rear suspension will have to be set up too far towards maintaining straight line traction.

If any manufacturer actually exceeds 275mph, I think large groups of people will start asking what the damn point is. Racecars have never gone too far above 250mph...and even that only lasted for a little while, as the sanctioning bodies started throttling them back / changing circuits to limit them.
