    Gentlemen, Having acquired a 355, what is the next car to have? Please do not mention Lambo or other brands. I don't find their styling attractive at all. Let's just stick with Ferrari. So I viewed the 360 and 430 under a microscope. These are modern cars more refined for daily driving. The one thing I can say about these cars, the dual clutch F1 gearbox. The F1 gearbox to me and a few of us I imagine is like a piece of cake to a fat kid. A stage pole to an exotic dancer. Yoko Ono to John Lennon. OK maybe the latter is not a good example. I apologize. But not to offend 360/430 owners, I can not get pass the styling given the Ferrari pedigree. So without going into detail, the next model is the 458. Now looks may not be as important but for some of us its a potential deal breaker. Here's how I see it on a scale of 1 to 10 compare to the 355. Never mind the engine power output.

    Front View:
    355 = 9
    458 = 9.5

    Side View (top down):
    355 = 9.5
    458 = 8.5

    Rear View:
    355 = 9.5
    458 = 7.5

    Silhouette (outline shape)
    355 = 10
    458 = 9

    Total
    355 = 38
    458 = 34.5

    So the world as I see it, the 458 is slightly behind the 355 in beauty. However, the F1 refinement and engine output make up for it. Now I've seen 458s as low as 260k. does anyone think it will fall to 200k in the future before they goes back up?

    It will depreciate by $X per month. By waiting to buy it, you will give up X+$1000 of enjoyment each month which cannot be recovered. Therefore, waiting for a lower price is costly.

    I bought mine nine years ago, Johnny. It had 59,000 miles on it and was the cheapest 550 around. It's got an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it's a GT or a sports car. :D

    Gullwing had one yesterday.sold in 24 hrs now they have another one same price lower miles.
    Damn i need to move this red 355 first, and i doubt they will give me a great price, while not perfect its a nice car but im not a fan of the F1 trans. I want a 12 cylinder and should have gotten one years ago.

    Bruce, I was a math major. Although I've never seen an equation written that way before it does add up. You forgot that I'm on the other side of PCH. Around here the numbers ride in the front of the decision making. That extra 60k might just be "the straw that broke the camel back". Only you and Carl can swing it. I can only bat 200 and only have eyes for a 458.

    I'm in the same boat, have a 355 hardtop and love it but want to add. Was thinking McLaren 12c but a 458 would be more fun.

    Just an FYI, the 360/430 don't have DCT. Only the 458 forward have it. As a 3- pedal 360 owner, I can tell you that it's the most fun vertical you can have in an old school meets modern vehicle. Assuming the f1 is what you do like about it, it's not as fast or reliable as the 458.

    But the F1 360 right now is probably the best deal in the F world as well sorted specimens in the high$60s-mid$70s, and comparable f1 430s in the low $100s

    Having never driven a 355, I can't say personally but I have read that the 355 and 360 are such different beasts that there is good reason to have both in your stable.

    As for styling, I think the 360 is the most beautiful ferrari ever made and is clearly the patriarch of the current styling of all more recent F v8s....but such is opinion on art and sculpture.

    For what it's worth, I've seen several threads in the 360/430 forum about 458 owners going back to a 430 because they wanted to feel more connected to the car.... And the market is a bit flooded with the 488 out now. There are plenty of 458s out there for $175.

    When I ask myself the same question though, I also am drawn to the v12 options...I love the 550, 612 and 599.....great to have options :)

    I agree. The 458 or 488 is a very close second. I have seen early 458's a little above and a little below 200, depending on miles. A 512TR would make a nice edition as well.

    I Was not aware the 360/430 doesn't have DCT. I'm sure they are great every day car nonetheless. at the moment I'm kind a watching to see where the 458 market goes. the ones I see within 200k mark have high mileage.

    Now I should not say this because I'm afraid my words will get out but this being a secret society I take it what's written here stays here. 😇 The 355s has the history, engineering breakthrough and the styling, the hallmarks of a great classic. My crystal ball tells me it's desirability will surpass the 360/430 and 458/488 in time to come. please safeguard this information by not sharing with member in the other sub forum. :)

    I love the 458. And the Cali's. But anyone considering needs to read up in those sub forums. For all the complaining that goes on here about 348/355 service costs, find the information on DCT gearbox failures, and their $25k replacement costs. Supposedly the expected failure rate is 100% for the initial 3-4 years of each model. Forget when those cars are 15-20 years old like ours, how about the day after their warranty ends - it's going to make valve guides and header replacement costs look cheap. Those higher mileage 458s are actually the ones you want, figuring their DCTs have already been replaced.

    The pre360 cars are classic, have the Dino heritage and are relatively easy and cheap to maintain. They are each unique in their own way and clearly exotic. Time won't change that, get in while you can.

    It's been at least a month since I've looked but I think you can find a 458 for a bit under 200k...

    PS: I know you said no Lamborghinis but if it was my money, I'd rather get a V12 Diablo or Murcielago than a 458. The driving experience will be just as unique as your 355 but in a different way.

    I want a V12 next. I find myself browsing the listings for the 612, Vanquish, FF and Murcielago...

    The 355 is 300lb lighter, 1in narrower and 9in shorter - it definitely feels a size smaller than the 360/430. While it has power steering, it is more of a 'go-kart'-like experience than the 360/430, which are smoother and more refined. Admittedly, the 355 spider top is a PITA and you have to get out of the car, unbutton the cover, put the seats all the way forward, etc. Not like the newer cars that quickly close and open while you're sitting there.

    Roth, check out ebay. I just saw 9 458's with mileage between 4000 and 15000. They were from 2010-2012 and the prices range from 178 to 199k.

    I too am thinking about a 458, or possibly an F12. I do think that F355 values are rising and 458 values are declining, and they may cross one day. You can now trade a 328 straight across for a 430, a few years ago that seemed impossible.

    I'm in the process of adding a 550M. TdF on Nero.

    Although I love my 355, if valuations start nearing 458 used market prices I would be compelled to upgrade.

    The plan is the same for the 550M but with the F12. That's a good 5-6 years out at least I'd say though.

    I also think we'll see 458's below $150k at some point before they start rebounding. Perhaps much lower if we go through another 2008 type scenario.
