It's that black funnel like thing in the emergency tray in the trunk (for US car, towards the front driver's side of that tray). I can't find anything in the manual about it. Is it a funnel to help with filling the windshield fluid reservoir? My car is 2012. I'm fairly sure recent cars all have it.

I believe it is for filling the gas tank with a gas can.

When Ferrari started using a fuel filler neck that seals automatically with no gas cap, they started to supply this funnel with the car. The funnel is the exact same size as the nozzle on the gas pump at the gas station, and it will allow you to put fuel in the car with a gas can should you run out of gas. Regular funnels will not open the door that is built into the new fuel filler neck.

Exactly. When they put in the capless system regular gas cans won't work. So they include the funnel.

All capless cars have them. It may be a DOT requirement.

Thanks to all. That makes sense. Indeed, filling the windshield fluid is not exactly an emergency LOL.

Why won't a regular funnel open that little metal flap? Just curious.

Not every "regular funnel" has the same diameter/length.

With capless, there is more than one flap. One on the outside and one on the inside further down the filler pipe. That is why you have the funnel- to get past both flaps.

Keep well care of those funnels....in 20 or more years those will be nos. Owners will not include them in a sale....will be put away to far...lost....just think about it. Same happens with the manuals, toolkits...:D

On some vehicles, using a generic funnel is not a good idea. I got a stern warning from a shop foreman once over this issue...

Luckily I have everything. Even this. I have a feeling those finals might end up costing $1000 at some point, LOL

Going capless was an answer to a problem not one person had.
