    Hi!
I'm new to exotic cars and I'm just learning to prepare for my purchase. One thing I'm worried about is the constant maintenance. If I'm willing to spend only 130K, which model do you recommend? I prefer to enjoy the car rather than spending time at the dealership to fix it constantly. I would be only driving it about 3000 miles a year.

Have you had experience with other exotic cars like Lambos?

    Thanks in advance!

A Tr or a 550. Maybe a 430 with a stick if you wanted soemthign small and lighter, but its hard to beat a 12.

I would choose an awesome 328 with some $$ to spare to fix it up if need be. But, like others have said, get what rocks your world.

Spend a lot of time looking and test driving! It's a very personal thing. I wish I had driven more cars before I bought. I thought I would love the 550, it's a great car but after I drove both a 360 and 430, they make my heart beat faster and are so much fun to drive. Take your time and find what moves you. It's a great process, to me it's as fun as ownership.

Some people object to taking their car to a Ferrari dealership for maintenance mainly because it's expensive. Others don't particularly mind the expense, but the irritation associated with having the car out of commission, negotiating/arguing with the service manager, facing the frustration of dealing with an unreliable car, etc. are more important factors which can spoil the Ferrari experience for some people.

If you want to stay away from the repair shop(s) common sense would say it might be better to buy an older well sorted car than a newer one which has been abused or is otherwise in need of care.

There are a large number of posts here having to do with soft top and F-1 transmission troubles/repairs some of which demand a visit to a dealer. Again, common sense would say your chances of avoiding a visit to a dealer go up if you have a manual transmission and a hard top.

After owning a few Ferrari's, my vote would be for a 430. You will enjoy the experience, just make sure to get a PPI before completing the purchase!

Drive everything you can. I ended up with a '99 Diablo roadster for less than your price point. Great mix of rarity (only 150 units worldwide), jaw-dropping good looks, performance (530 hp), and vintage feel (the newer cars tend to disconnect the driver from the car....sad).

If you like 430's get a 430 especially if you don't have a huge maintenance budget. The fact that you don't have to due the costly belt change all the time is a huge plus.

I love Diablos when someone else owns one. I've read about and seen first hand the maintenance bills. If you haven't owned it for more than 3 years don't tell me that it is as reliable as a Honda Accord yet.

Lamborghini Gallardo is a great car to drive, especially if you like speed. It handles better than a Diablo, in my opinion.

No, it isn't Swiss watch reliable like a 355...

Special car for special people, have to put up with the $5-7k per year to keep it in top form. I would rather pay for maintenance than have an Aventador or 458 or 12C and suffer $10k+ in depreciation alone each year.

Good car, common as far as exotics go. Yes, handles better than a Diablo but I'll trade that for the drama, rarity, connection to the car, the V-12, scissor doors, full Lamborghini experience every time.

Amazing performance for the money. Still depreciating, but no moreso than something like a new 911/991.

wow! Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts. It's very helpful!
I really prefer a convertible. As I'm looking more and more, I think I end up buying a convertible. Also, I like the F1 transmission. Is there any reliable F1 transmission in any of the Ferrari's model considering my budget? If not, I'm comfortable to drive a manual.

By the way, I like the California but I think it's above my budget and It might be too small for my taste. So 355 or 430 might be my best choice. What do you guys think?

Last year I had to decide which exotic I wanted to buy also, had more in my budget but considered many cars, including the Diablo, 360, 430, Gallardo, R8, and several others.

In your price range, I'd find a nice 430.. lower maintenance, great driver, and it's very recognizable as a Ferrari IMO.

I love Diablo's and seriously considered one, but a lot of unknowns with potential maintenance (big ticket possibilities on an older car scared me away). The interiors are also older looking, and after looking/driving 430's it was hard to get excited about the Diablo interiors. Also, I have a Ferrari dealer within 15 minutes of my house, Lambo is about an hour and a half away. If I could have 2 exotics, I'd probably add a Diablo and just suck up/plan for the maintenance.

Gallardo's are sharp looking cars, but once I drove one (after I had driven a 430), I felt the Ferrari was a better, more refined ride all the way around.

I would also follow your heart- if you love one design over others, I'd go for your dream and plan for the maintenance. There's nothing like driving your dream car!!

For me, I ended up with a Scuderia.. was my absolute dream car and I didn't want to compromise with anything else! Glad I did, it's still an amazing feeling to drive it... which to me is priceless.

In all fairness, the last year Diablo is only 4 years older than the first year 430. You mention the interior differences, which is true unless you stick with the last generation Diablos. Yes, if you don't have a qualified tech available a Diablo, or any classic, shouldn't be considered.

And thats the real difference, the 430 is a mass-poduced modern exotic, while the Diablo is a hand made old world supercar that drips character but yet has modern power.....its really a great combination.
