What's the real difference of a driver hearing in his radio "we are sensing catastrophic engine failure, so keep the revs below 10,000" and "we are sensing a tire wear problem, so keep your speed down below 100km in the turns" ????? They could have raced and reduced speeds in certain sections. And for those worried about the difference in speeds between cars, look at the ALMS (?) type series where there are multiple types of cars with vastly difference performance. Good racecar drivers should know how to deal with adversity and changing conditions.

I believe the McLarens and the Renaults (et al) didn't want to be seen being lapped by Minardis, so they chose not to race.

Michelin came unprepared, and had their "spin doctors" try to put blame on others (FIA) for not accepting their (Michelin) last-minute suggestions on putting up a chicane. Why can't people accept the responsibility for their own actions instead of throwing blame elsewhere? There was a report on Yahoo's F1 sport page that said after Kimi's tire failure, Max M wrote Michelin warning them about placing tire performance behind safety when designing their product...
