I realized I left out an important bit of context in my original thread title, so amending it.

It should say fastest in a 456/550/575

So far I see folks say they have 205 MPH in a 550 and 173 MPH in a 456

Years ago a guy from Dallas hit 205 in his 550 on way to track event at TWC. Not too wise on Texas roads given the lack of awareness of other drivers, IMHO.

I think simon went faster in his 370 on the last gg didn't he?

If you think your 430 wasn't stable, wait until you try it in your 355!

205 indicated in a 550 is likely around 185, still humming along pretty good.

I had 331km/h (205.6 mph) indicated on my 458 with a little oomph to go near Osnabrück, Germany in 2013. Real speed was around 200 mph. My brother was behind in my 550 pretty much maxed out at a speed which I estimate at 295 or thereabouts (183 mph). It was a nice little run. Had to lift when trucks appeared, I do not overtake at such speeds.

A friend of mine had 300 kph. on GPS in a 550. I dob’t believe the speedometer lie that much Terry. My needle was stable at exactly 330 kph. two times in April. It must be over 300 on a GPS. If not, I am about to go in a depression!!

I got 307 km/h (on GPS) out of my 550 Maranello about 10 years ago in Germany. It hits the 7200 rpm "soft" limiter at that speed. All the magazine test that I have seen have also gotten 307-308 km/h, which sounds logical, as it hits the limiter.

The indicator was showing 327 km/h though:)

Erik- Ferrari speedometers are normally 5-10% fast. So 330 kph could be anywhere from 297-314 kph or 184-195 mph. The magic number here is 200 mph or 322 kph.

575M fuel shut-off is at 7600 rpm, so I am surprised the 550 quit at 7200 rpm when redline is 7500 rpm, even if peak power is at 7000 rpm. Same redline for the 575M, except peak power is at 7250 rpm.

I didn’t think Simon got to that speed.

This post describes the theory behind what I experienced.
    550 vs 575 max speed.
The soft limiter can be felt in other gears as well, I see no point in revving beyond 7200 rpm, but it does rev higher in lower gears. In 6th it does not have enough power to exceed the soft limiter.

That post mistakenly says the 575M has the same soft limiter below fuel cut-off, which I do not think is the case. 575M peak power is at higher revs and 575s use Motronic 7.1.1 instead of 5.2. Motor Trend tested 550s and 575Ms and both exceeded 190 mph true while still accelerating, but those were likely press factory hot rods with tweaks for top speed.

Unlimited autobahn is about 10 mins away from my home. I'll do a max run one of these days to find out what I can get it to on the GPS.
