I have done 130mph in a 575 Maranello, and 150mph in a Maserati Coupe. Both were rock solid at those speeds.

Speeds to remember: Late 70’s 110 mph in the mid town tunnel, New York 5:00 am. A Lamborghini 400 with the windows open and the wail from that V12 bouncing right through my chest. The tiles were like ice and the car danced between the walls, forget about putting it into fifth.
Mid eighties: Le Mans. Qualifying a dreadful C1 at night. Radar clocked at 222 mph on the Mulsane straight. There was a Jolly Club Ferrari Boxer ahead, flames coming out of the exhausts as total horse power equaled total drag, and he was reversing down the road at me at 42 mph! That was really weird....
More recently: 160 mph in a 360 Modena, Highway 5 - and my lawyer said to say I was the passenger.
On a final note: I take my hat off to anyone who goes over 140 mph on a bike - that’s when I run out of interest in having a bent right wrist.
Oh, Airplane: Mach 2.01 , Concorde.

In Portugal, fortunately there are few cops around and the highways are not all that bad!! These are all speedo readings:

    295 km/h in a 360 (uncle's car)
    305 km/h in a 550 (dad's car)
    286 km/h in a Yamaha R1 (was mine)
    315 km/h in a Kawa ZZR1100
270 km/h in a Subaru STI (was mine and was modified)

In the US, you can't speed as much so:
170 mph, very brief, in a Porsche 911 turbo (was mine)
140 mph in a Ferrari '79 308 GTB (is mine and needed more room to go faster but you can only see so far, and cops are all over the place!)

Here's a funny story, I learned how to drive stick in a rented 348 in Maui, we got it for a day, and we literally drove it for 24 hours! Got it up to 140 on the road to Lahaina late at night, but since it had been beat on by previous renters, the front end was swaying back and forth, I didn't want to go any faster. Saw the strangest thing that night, instead of a rainbow, we saw a 'moonbow'.

When I got my Euro 308 GTS QV, did 140 on a dry winter night on a highway near Chicago.

    150 in my Boxster S
152 in Vette ZR1, with a friend on a Ninja bike 1 mile ahead on the radio, he's the crazy one!

The speedo said 110 mph and it sort of felt like it, but who really knows. I don't trust a thing that instrument panel tells me.

I'm glad to see that everybody realizes that speedometer error can be greater than 10mph. Bikes are notorious for speedo error of almost 10%.
Much better to use rpm's and gearing to calculate speed.
The highest speed by a bike, anybike certified is 187mph(actual mph) not indictaed, indicated was 202mph..A full race bike is different, very few are geared to do 200 mph..

110 in my 1968 365GT2+2 - doesn't sound like much, but with the 1960s aerodynamics, you get a floaty feeling at that speed - not very comfortable and kind of surprising given that it is such a heavy car.

    BryanP,

I've done 135 in my 330 with no problems but that's nothing compared to 80mph in a rusty 1978 VW campervan (yes, downhill with a tailwind) it was truly an experience to remember! Actually I had a rear tire blowout in that van at 65mph and managed to keep it straight and upright.

For driving at the edge without exceeding the speed limit, nothing beats an old VW bus!

128mph in a '99 Integra -- It felt very loose and light, and I didn't dare take it any faster.

133mph in the same car packed full with occupants and luggage -- It felt much more stable, but pretty much topped out there.

Turns out the speed was inaccurate again, cop tried to time him on a stopwatch only, no radar used...Some people will believe anything they read.

    135 mph for a glass 308 GTB, 130mph 330 GT,
Red line again in 365GT4 2+2 157 mph indicated, four people on board, only to be passed by my mate in a Boxer! I was having fun untill then. All as steady as a rock, doing exactly what GOD indended them to do
Later the guy in the Boxer told me he was the other side of 270KPH. Fantastic cars, and a real privilage to have been able to drive them for REAL.

156mph around Goodwood in an F50 on slicks, with sick brakes. The lap time was close to the full on Honda BTCC car the driver was also testing that day.

175mph around Rockingham oval in an ASCAR was fun too- especially when you see that concrete wall looming up at you.
