What is the most affordable model in terms of initial purchase price, parts availability for major repairs, and maintenance, as well as ease of self repair for the mechanically inclined prospective owner. I am wondering which of the 348, 355, 360 series with manual transmissions would be chosen based on those factors.

The 360 while expensive initially may have a much lower costs of maintenance as the timing belt service doesn't necessitate engine removal and for the DIYfer it would be only about $500/year (for parts only).

The 348 probably can be bought for $50K and I don't know how much it would be to maintain or repair (like needs clutch job, etc). Be interesting to see what you experts and owners say.

All depends on your situation. Obviously different cars in price ranges are more or less affordable to each person. IMO it's best to start with what you can afford without question and work your way up. There are a lot of great Ferraris. No need to spread yourself too thin to get in one.

Probably 308 or 328; you can service the cars without removing the engine, and they don't have the engine computers of the later cars.

"Best-looking" is something you have to decide...

Of the cars you list, the 348 is most user friendly. It does not have to have a modern OBD II computer to read engine problems. Also, the older the car, the less technology is involved (no power steeering, electric suspension control, etc...). There is a fair amount of room around the engine of all three models you list, so I would say your really mostly restriucted by your initial budget. The newer the model you can afford, the more modern and faster car you can get. The depreciation of the 348 is pretty much done. The 355 is almost done. The 360 is about in the middle of its depreciation cycle. So if you can afford to get any of the three, drive each and see which one stirs your blood.

308/328. Abundant parts, easier access, and if put to vote, would place high on anyone's list of best looking Ferraris.
