    Hi folks:

Just out of curiosity, how slow is the slowest corner in F-1?

I thought I recalled announcers mention some corners as being slow as <25mph range. Since most tracks are pretty wide, I can't imagine a high performance street car not being able to negotiate any corner in F-1 at atleast 15 mph or so (purely conjecture).

So are there some corners where the speed differential between a current F-1 car and a good street car is no greater than 10 mph? (fully realizing that those extra mph are pretty hard to come by in some corners, as well as other factors such as setting up for corners before and after.)

Its not very surprising since the cars are not making ANY downforce at those slow speeds...in fact, even a small go-kart could be faster through a hairpin:)

What about that dumba$$ switchback at Indy? Talk about a missed opportunity for what could have been a cool track....

Monaco has the two slowest - Lowes and Rascasse, both around 20 mph.

Interestingly, at the Hairpin at Montreal for example the "heavily modified" Mercedes pace car is going through the corner Ba!!s out, on the brink of disaster, while the F1 cars are right behind it on a slow cruise.

Loews at Monaco. Uber tight radius. Montreal's hairpin is slow, but not THAT slow. Taken on the outside, the Montreal hairpin can be taken fairly quickly (relatively anyway). Loews is an absolute standstill.

The Loew's hairpin at Monaco is so slow and so tight that the teams have to modify the front steering of the cars (for that race only) so that they have increased lock in order to negotiate the small radius.

The slower the corner the less advantage a F1 car will have over another type of car. This is because aerodyamic stuff only works at speed, thus the wings, etc. are totally ineffective in a really slow corner. This means that the tyres are unloaded and thus the car is really working just as good as any other car with that much rubber.

Remember if the difference between 15 MPH and 25mph is 66% so on that basis a corner a road car could take at 100mph and F1 car would take at 166mph - that cant be too far from the truth.

Also the hairpin at Shanghai looked pretty slow to me.
