    wow -
    I remember when this was popular in Jaguars and Porsches in the 70s;
raises the price slowly but surely on the survivors.

The Mondial looks like it found a mad surgeon. Just for the record, have you ever been in a sorted Pantera? Mine handles at least as well as my 'other' car. (Though it doesn't steer as fluidly.)

If it doesn't have a Ferrari engine, it isn't a Ferrari. What do you want to own?

I can live with the idea of the chev. 350 (not my thing however) The wing has to go!, but what kills me is the plastic sewer and drain 4" 90 above the roof line in the third photo directing air to the 4-barrel carb. this car screams redneck! (maybe its Larry the cable guys Ferrari)

omy- & look at those chrome rims.. what a molested ferrrari.

I once owned an Alpha Romeo Spider. Being just out of high school, I didn't have much money, so when I went to an Alpha mechanic (a purist to say the least) and asked for after market parts, he asked if I wanted an Alpha or a Heinz 57.

I think the same question could be asked of this Ferrari Owner--Do you want a Ferrari or a Heinz 57?

    My 2 bits worth.

I know the car and the owner. In fact I have tracked with that car twice, the last being back in June.

The guy loved his Mondial but he had enough when he was passed by a Miata on the track a little while back. So he did this.

Miatas aren't passing him anymore. You really need to hear that thing at speed to. Hard to describe, it's not a Ferrari but it's not a Camero sound either. I actually like it.

We in the Southeast FCA, at least, have given him a pass with this one.

    Thanks Tommy.

I noticed there was a roll hoop installed behind the seats and wondered if this thing saw any track time.

I agree about the drain pipe elbow though - I'd consider doing something a little different there myself.

Yeah, He likes the track. He is a great guy too. Really nice.

I admire him for keep an 81 Mondial and just making it faster. Most folks would have tossed that car and bought a 355 or something but not him. It was a project too. The headers a custom (obviously) and there was a trick getting a tranny to work with everything but he did it. It all works well together and it is quick too.

I have mixed feelings on this - a Ferrari needs to have a Ferrari engine. I admire the desire to make a Mondial SCREAM, but....what we have here is more Ford than Ferrari. I haven't driven my 308 on-track yet, but I know someone who has had LOTS of experience tracking a 308 GTS, and he says the wing is actually necessary for the needed downforce. So even though I absolutely hate the look of it, the car probably needs the wing for track duty.

BTW, Birdman has 348 rims on his Mondial, I think they make a perfect addition to the car (but I wouldn't chrome them).

His money, his time, his car. Something a little different that makes it unique and perform better. The next person who owns it can always convert it back.

Looks like it's part of the air intake system, although I can't figure out how from the pictures.

I believe you're looking at the K&N (or?) filter connected to a 4" ABS plastic 90 elbow resting (loose) on the roof, which, when the hood is down, has to be dropped through the hood and onto the carb from outside.

As much as this Mondial may be mocked, this happened all of the time in the late '50's-early '60's to many Ferraris like 250 Boano's, PF Coupes and the "obsolete" race cars... When the engine broke, they shoe-horned in a domestic motor, because it was cheaper (those cars weren't collectible then and the owners couldn't justify the expense of rebuilding the motor when it probably would cost more than the entire car itself!)... I hate to break it to you guys, but the Mondial ain't collectible! Not now at least... ;)

The only problems I have with this particular car is the wing and the intake system. If he went to such effort to make those really nice looking exhaust manifolds, he could have done a neater, cleaner job with the intake system.
