Just curious if anybody has any thoughts about these following items.

    Whats a Used/unrebuilt gearbox from a 1992 348 worth, I heard that a salvage yard might get $9,000???

Whats a Used Tubi exhaust with Tubi test pipes??

348 cloth Folding targa top, black, new in box??

What would you expect to pay for a pair of used 348 factory leather seats?

Has anyone seen many examples were a 348 is attempted to be lifted in the back and the jack is in the wrong spot?? I am talking about someone putting a jack right in front of the rear wheels. This will buckle the lower rear quarter in front of the back wheels, out a little. Anybody ever fixed someting like that???

Has anybody bought a used/unrebuilt 348 motor, curious what that might bring if running???

mucho gracias any help you can provide.

I would say you could easily get $1500 - $2000 for the Tubi. Another $300-500 for the test pipes.
Gearbox - No clue other than I have heard rumors that a new one goes for around $15k.
Seats - I would say probably around $1200 for the pair and maybe around $2000 if they are the Carbon Fiber seats (which I assume they are not since you mention the car being a 1992).
I do not know of the 'folding top' for the targa on a 348. If it is the targa top cover I would say maybe $200.
There has been a 348 2.7 Motronic motor for sale from Ferraripartsexchange.com (Lyle Tanner) for $7500 for about a year now. If you want to sell it cheap and fast I would guess $6000.
These are all guesses based on other items I have seen for sale in the past six months.

I just bought a folding top and immediately sent it to London. They are NOT available as new items anymore. Paul Hill and I are going to remanufacture them with better rubber, better cloth, and all-new latches! :)

    (timeframe? mid/late summer)

I am just trying to sort out a car I am looking at buying and getting an idea
on $$$ to bring it back to life or parting it out. I need seats for example if I rescue this thing and revive it.

    ...and one more thing....

having now supplied the gears for 3 Fchatters gearboxes this winter, I would be (personally) reluctant to buy the box for $9K used or "condition unknown" form an individual with no certification of its condition. Odds are, you'll spend another 5K getting it right.

Used parts is a very very dicey world, and only a few folks are successful in it -- like ferraripartsexchange. They have tons of knowledge and can quickly separate the wheat from the chaff.

This folding convertible top like a "accordian" I don't have a clue what it is worth. My guess is it might be worth something, not everyone has room behind there seat for the hard top if there tall.

The folding top is probably worth somewhere around $1000 if it's in primo shape (maybe more?). I wouldn't mind having one for my car, but I'm too cheap to pay that much.

I don't think I would expect anybody to buy it for $9,000, condition undeterminable. But surely that part must have some value of $1,000 or $2,000 wouldn't you say. You mentioned that you just sold one of those folding tops, so how much was it????? I appreciate you telling me your going to manfacturer them, but I got a new in the box old stock, so I am more concerned with unloading one.

I dealt with those guys from Ferrari parts exchange, and continued buying from Silver Star after they made there sudden exit from that partnership, I don't think I would call them straight shooters, but I guess to each his own, buyer beware.

Let me help you rephrase what your saying....

Don't post anything that could possibly help out another member for alot less money, thats called my profit!!! Used parts are a dicey world so you egg heads should only trust people like me and ferraripartsexchange. They can seperate the wheat from the chaff and make sure your paying the proper overpriced price.

Look.......you asked for opinions..........and you are getting nasty. You are new here and about to attempt a HUGE project. These guys were giving you their opinion...right or wrong.

Bottom line, if you repair it, you will have a 348 with a dubious past that will probably virtually sell proof. If you part it out, you have a chance to make a few bucks. That car would be better off parted out....but that's my opinion.

Well I give it about a week before you are completely black listed. You are picking the wrong fight with the wrong person of this community. I've changed my mind, you should rebuild the car. It could become a very rewarding project, good luck with it.

    Dale -

I am indeed sorry if I offended you in some way. To your exact questions,

I paid $1,481 for the folding top, for the sole purpose of destroying it and building a cheaper one for other customers. There will be PLENTY of people not wanting a "copy" version like I'm building, and I think in the concours world, your top, in the box, is worth decent money. If I hadn't found one already, I was prepared to pay upwards of $2k for one.

YES, the gearbox absolutely has value -- even in an "unknown state". The main transmission torque is worth $1500 alone; the clutch shaft is worth $1200. The problem with a gearbox is that when something goes "crunch", it almost always takes prisoners along for the ride. It's rare to see a box blow, and not take about 10 bearings, roller bearings, gears, etc. into the scrapyard with it.

If you are parting the with the Tubi, I'm sure you will have cash offers within MINUTES here on Fchat -- ranging from $750- $2000. Retail on a new one is around $3000. Regardless of the condition of yours, people seem to get hung-up on "new" and so if you get an offer over $1K, I'd take it.

If your door panels and mid-level leather items are in good shape, I will pay cash for them. The leather on each door alone should bring $2500 in brand new condition; $750 is excellent "used" condition.

The rims have little value. They are a dime-a-dozen on ebay.

Your Cat ECU's, if intact with a nice silicone seal are worth $100/each. Motronic's are probably $350 each. I bet our fellow Fchatter 'No Doubt' would buy one, simply to play Dr. Frankenstein.

If the carpet section inside your front trunk is in great condition, I'll give you $500 for it right now. Seats? Honestly, it's tough. A quality re-dye job with Leatherique will make an old set look brand new. I would think you could get about $1500 per seat, if they are in mint condition.

If you'd like to know the price of any other item on your car, please kindly ask.

Again, I apologize if I somehow pissed you off. The internet is a glass house. I don't throw rocks.

Hey Daniel, I *did* pick up 2 cat ECU's already, actually (and an ABS ecu). Eventually I'll get around to buying a spare Motronic A/F ECU (certainly I'd snap up a Competitizione ecu just to scan the A/F chip).

Heck, I almost bought some tackle to go trolling, today...

Not to hijack, but where did you get the cat ECU??? New or used, I'm kind of looking although I don't have a problem yet, I think it would be good to have. Man, for a new guy he sure jumped up against the most helpful of all sellers here. Daniel's post sure represents how self assured JRR is about his business. Way to take the high road! Daniel, I sure hope you continue to love the Ferrari world. It would be much worse off without your dedication!

    Bill -

I wrote a long reply to No Doubt's posting this morning, then deleted it, for fear of someones potential reply. Anyway, here goes.

I sold a brand new ABS ECU earlier this month for a 348 spider. Unless yours is smoldering, please don't mess with it. My customer paid $2600, which is still $600 less than Ferrari retail. He got a good deal, but it's still way too much money for this unit. No Doubt: if the ABS ECU you purchased is in good working condition, you might want to try reselling it before playing Dr. Frankenstein.

Not to hijack the thread, but the ABS in my 348 is really strange. I have absolutely pounded the brakes, and I can't get the car to skid or ABS to "pump" the brakes. In my BMW, if I nail the brakes, the car will shudder violently and the pedal will bump like nuts. The car will come to an absolute, under control stop with no skid whatsoever. The Ferrari however, never seems to pump the pedal, nor does it ever skid. Any thoughts? (I'll be damned if I'm going to mess with the ECU)

For reference, I am now running stock rotors and Porterfield R4S pads and ATE SuperBlue.

    Hijack part II...
I was talking about getting an exhaust / cat ECU for the future. The left side (5-8) cat ecu was replaced by a previous owner so I was thinking to have one for the 1-4 bank if it needs it in the future. ABS has never kicked in on my 348 either but I tend to start the car in a yaw control loss slide before straight line braking would have a chance to activate the ABS. It is mo' fun this way.
