Just stopped at a truck stop on the IL/WI border on the way to grab this thing and read all the posts. I think that Daniel wrote a nice piece back, wish he would have wrote that earlier to me and not brushed me off. Everybody knows someone you don't care for, one of mine is a business in CA. he mentioned, didn't think I said anything to bad about that business, will have to look later. Heck, most of you don't care for me:) So If I affended anyone, well what can I say, I am allowed to have an opinion from a personal bad experience aren't I? Thought what Daniel provided was valuable info, and I truly appreciate it. I guess I owe him an apology when I get back, I don't know him but from the posts on a thread I started. I also thought bp348 wrote a nice note and Tillman too. I get a kick out of people calling me a a$$ hole and Troll, and all the other names, kinda funny. Goes back to what Daniel said about the internet is a glass something, he is right again, excellent parable(Is that what they call those).

Calling me a Troll and blacklisting me??? wow, pretty severe stuff, sounds like I am judged, juried and hung in one sentence. Guess its okay to flame me, but dare I have an opinion. So I must be one of those short tempered guys who gets his feelings hurt easily or people are really sensitive. I looked at Rob Lays guidelines for posting rules, there pretty good. Don't flame people and remember the chat room is only two dimensional, so things can get twisted around pretty easy. Careful what you say it advises, anybody that took the low road maybe should read those guidelines again.

Guess I better start taking my lithium and prozac again so I don't get anybody
    upset with me.

When I get back and I have time to analyse what I dragged home, I am going to post some pic's and put a list up of what I got for around $6,000. You might not like me, but aren't you at least curious when someone finds a deal. Although maybe I am jumping to conclusion on using the word deal, maybe it should be mistake. Well gotta go, didn't proof read this, and with all the noise in this place who knows what I might have typed this time, hope I didn't poop in someone elses yard again.

How did he brush you off. He was trying to be helpful and you accused him of promo'ing his business.
It was your comments about Daniel that pissed US off.
Where did I call you a a$$ hole?

    1. You come on the board, Throwing insults and accusations around and we should open our arms to you? Think again.
    2. You are not subscribed.

    Dale -

One final bit of caution (and meant to be 100% sincere), please subscribe to Fchat and post your "for sale" items in FerrariAds, not these threads. The main forums are really not the correct place for person-to-person product sales announcements.

Detailed photographs and proper descriptions will help everyone. I would encourage you to list your parts according to their proper Ferrari numbers; that way, people with parts books at home can be sure of what they're buying.

Daniel, I know that people need new parts, and I'm glad that you can save people money from buying direct from Ferrari...but Man! $2,600 for that ABS ECU is out of control (and I'm not blaming you).

Bosch rebuilds all of their ECUs for a fraction of that price here: http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/pcPetr3.asp?c=2&d=1

These gentlemen will test your ECU for $70, fix it for somewhere around $150, and hot-swap you a replacement for about $200: http://tunemycar.com/ecu_exchange___repair.html

Used, the 348 ABS ECU (in working condition) typically sells on eBay for $600 or less. I paid $150 for mine (came from a 1995 F355 broken for parts in the UK, same ABS ECU as the 1994 348 Spider).

But again, I understand that people need new rather than used or rebuilt...but ouch! $2,600 for something that you could have repaired for $150 just hurts...

So I'm glad that you are out there for the guys who *need* absolutely new parts, and I'm glad that you are saving them $600 from Ferrari's prices...but to those guys who demand **new** I have to ask, do you *really* need new rather than rebuilt or used?!

To me, that's the whole difference in Ferrari "cost of ownership" experiences...paying OEM new prices for 348 parts *is* pricey...paying for used 348 and rebuilt 348 parts isn't.

...And for electronics, to me used is as good as new. Either an electronics part works or it doesn't...wear isn't an issue. It's not like a gasket or seal or bearing or hose that ages (both of which I'll soon be buying from you in quantity, by the way).

sometimes these guys can help, too: http://www.ecudirect.com/finditfast/default.asp?type1=rnr

Daniel - I was like you in that I never could hit my ABS at all with the stock brakes on the car. I mean NEVER! As soon as I put the Brembos on the car that changed real quick. I now have to modulate pretty damn good under hard braking to not get them to come on.

I think the stock calipers are pretty weak actually.

Since this thread is all about Ferrari parts for sale I have a set of calipers I am putting up on eBay here soon since the wife is making me clean the garage. Anybody here intested before I put them up for real sale on eBay or FerrariAds?

Daniel, I did get a little bit into the 348's ABS ECU. It's got two *identical* PC boards that are cross-wired...so if one board blows up (or gets any fault) the system then switches and runs on the other board (the Space Shuttle uses this trick, too).

The switch happens *very* fast (so that you never lose your ABS brakes), and it throws an ABS ECU trouble code.

But this also means that a lot of working ABS units are showing up as "faulty," and it means that with a couple of "faulty" ABS units you can build a fully functional ABS.

Which is to say that *every* stock 348 owner (OK, maybe not all of the Competitiziones) is driving with a spare ABS ECU...because we've all got 2 identical ECUs inside that one ABS box.

OK, I'll just come out and say it....

That is pretty dang cool. How would the "end user" know which of the two boards has failed? What would it entail to wire a new one in?

It's just about plug-n-play for swapping out the PC boards, so no big deal there.

As for figuring out which one is bad, you just need to swap a good board with either ECU board in the faulty ABS unit. If you still get the same ABS ECU trouble code (for a bad PC), then just swap out the last one. If not, then you already fixed the problem with your first swap!

And getting that trouble code means that you've still got one functioning ABS ECU board, by the way. So 2 "faulty" ABS units will combine to make one pristine ABS unit with full real-time hot-swap redundancy.

    And yeah, that's pretty cool.

Our 348 ABS ECU has 3 levels of redundancy in sum:
    1. a good ABS ECU board
    2. a backup ABS ECU board that is constantly running, diagnosing its brother (they both check each other), with real-time hot-swap capability, and
    3. full power brakes available even if the whole ABS ECU (or ABS pump) dies

And of course, we've got our emergency brake in case the entire power brake system fails.

It's not a bad little system. Ferrari actually put some thought into driver/passenger safety with that system.

    I'mmmmm BAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay let's look at my week how it went, and see what I have accomplished.

    1) Started using Fchat and irritated, insulted or pissed off the members that I will need help from in the future. DONE

    2) Read Rob Lays rules for posting, reminding people to be conscience of other peoples feeling, and remember that the internet is only
Two dimensional, careful what you say. Ignored them, voiced my very opinionated beliefs about the Ferrari parts being too expensive, nobody needs to hear. DONE

    3) Threw a childish fit, because some guy named Daniel didn't answer my question right away about what some parts are worth. DONE

    4) Promised Dad, who happens to own the company I derive an income from, I would complete Nicor bid estimate before leaving town to pick this car up. Let's see, to busy stirring up trouble on FChat. NOT DONE.......est. tonight

    5) Met some nice person named Matt on Fchat called me a Troll, looked at what he has contributed. Admits he has been banned three times in a previous post, wants me banned, rethink why I even post/share anything. PENDING

    6) Purchased a running/driving 1992 348 Red TS for below $7,000. DONE

    7) Decided what to do with car, no clue, put the word out might part car out, get in trouble for obtaining levels of interest. DONE

    8) Upset wife missed agreed appointment yesterday at new hard to get into daycare facility. No chance the wife will let our cars sit out for me to put this thing in our three car garage, one bay kids, one bay hers, one mine. DONE

    9) Spent time that could have been utilized better on my job, irritated Dad. No use of the hanger for "that heap". Parents live in Aero Estates where the plane is in your backyard, hanger attached to house. I live in more modest housing a block away. Car stuck in business shop eight miles from house. Yuck DONE

    10) Mentally commit to getting back to work, and staying off of Ferrarichat. Something makes me like to read it though. DONE

    11) Inventory what I got, what I have, and what is best course of action. Seek valuable advice as to selling as whole car, part it out, revive it. Reserve parts for sale to FerrariAds, I concur. NOT DONE

    12) Send pm email to guy named Daniel for jumping on him, read quite a few post, seems like a walking repair manual. NOT DONE

    13) Resign from posting on this particular thread ever again. DONE

    14) Figure out how to ever reply to over 40 pm for info on parts, probably won't be able too for quite a while. NOT DONE

    15) Understand I am a newbie, listen more talk less. DONE

    16) Learn how to use those smilely faces at the end of a sentence. NOT DONE

    17) Post picks after wife cools down of car, I can take them, just don't get the downloading into the computer. PENDING

ohh crap boss just pulled up............

348 Project Car. Your apology seems sincere, apology accepted. Daniel is the best and you just didn't know it. You will definately need him, make sure and write that email to him... Let's move on!

I have one too and it has been a labor of love for 4 months now. I am just waiting for my carbon fiber bits to come in and I'll be back in business! I have a growing supply of used 348 parts here, let me know what you need...

Nice post, and nice post 348 project car. This is the way to get back on the good side of the Fchatters. Water under the bridge. Glad you got the car. Welcome to the brotherhood (a standard greeting for all new 348 owners)! Post a few pics and make sure to photo what is lacking to make the car 'whole'. This way people here can intelligently make suggestions on whether to part the car or where to ge the parts needed to complete it.
The smily faces are using key board colon-right parenthesis wink is semi colon-right parenthesis (no hyphens, no spaces).
