Obviously it's a model of a 56 F1, but anyone know anything about the model itself?

The labeling inside says Strombecker, 1959. The rear axle is metal and has a spline, and there's what looks like a guide in the front. It's all plastic.

I got it cheap at a a flea market, so this is just curiosity.

Cool find. Looks to be an old slot car.

Strombecker was a fairly well known slot car manufacturer. My brothers still have their sets buried away somewhere, the cars were large, maybe 1/32 ?. Yours looks like a Lancia/Ferrari F1, the cars they had/have were later models, a 904, Cobra Daytona, Ford GT40 and Chaparral. Nice find!

Looks similar to some Scalextrics (sp?) that James May had on a recent episode of James Mays Toy Stories...it was a great episode if you can find it. He did a 2.75 mi track.
