Very cool, just read the entire thread, seems like a great purchase. Love the details you put on the car, the stickers, the detailing, and the small touches.
Congrats on the blurb in the Winter 2011 edition of Motor Trend Classic! There are two F-Chatters in there, you and GrayTA. Shiny Side Up! Bill
My GTO is also in the same issue, so is Florian's Toyota, UroTrash's BMW, and Rdefabri's Jag - 6 F-chatters altgether!
Tomorrow it'll be 4 years! Wow. Still have it, too. This pic from last week. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh and I did put a radio in her. Last November I found a correct green line radio in a junk pile at a swap meet - looked to be correct but wasn't so pretty - was missing knobs, shaft nuts, etc. I disassembled and cosmetically restored it piece by piece. Could not find the harness plug as it had likely been snipped long ago. Eventually I will pop the dash cover off and look for where it was snipped. This was an AM radio, one speaker optioned car originally. I've bounced around the idea of buying a stereo dash cover and installing a modern iPod and XM capable radio in the glovebox and wiring that up to the stock speaker locations. Anyway here's a pic with the radio installed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I may be looking to sell this car soon to put some $$$$ into my business, pay off a few bills, and get a little leaner. If anyone's interested, PM me. $23,500 is what im thinking...I'll throw the trophies in The entire history of the car is in this thread.
She's been sold to an FChatter! Hopefully he will add to the thread occasionally. The truck came and got her this morning. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It arrived a few hours ago. The car looks great and I am really looking forward to driving it. I just need to wait for the salt to clear off the roads. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
OMG that's so awesome seeing it come off the trailer. Seeing these pics makes me kinda sad, though. ENJOY the car Kevin!
I figured that it is about time for me to update this thread. I recently had the front brakes changed from drums to disks. This was a much needed upgrade and makes quite a difference. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
nice car.... i have started to rationalize my old car purchases by potential resto costs just to make it a nice driver..... a decent paint job is $10k...... almost makes anything in nice condition worth $20k
Over the winter I decided to install an SS style dash with gauges to replace the Malibu "sweep" speedometer. What I came to realize during this project is that one of the past owners (not REMIX) did a really half-assed job in putting the car back together after work was done on it. For example, the steering column was only held on with one bolt and the dashpad contained several different types of screws. The worst part was the steering column itself. When this car was converted from a column shift automatic to a manual setup the steering column was never replaced. Instead an aftermarket tach was just placed over the hole where the shifter was. Since it looked horrible I decided to replace it with a rebuilt tilt column. I also decided to replace the ignition cylinder as the old one would not go in to the locked position. This meant that the car could actually be started without the keys. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks terrific! Sorry I've been so swamped with all this music stuff I've had no time whatsoever to even think about cars at all (including FChat) since last year. The ignition not locking never bothered me, since it was in the garage 98% of the time I owned it. So glad she found a good home! Please keep us updated on your progress.
