    what is this black hose which looks like it's coming from the bottom of the water overflow tank. it's not connected to anything> I'm thinking it should be connected to something but I can tell what.
    There is a tan/gold plastic hose which is the overflow hose from the tank which just goes through a metal hole and out the car. I can't tell how the overflow tank is connected to the cooling system, must be underneath.

    right 75 308 GT4 but ferrari, not dino badged. charcol cannister? never saw that on the car. the hose doesn't look like it can stretch to the 28 or 30 connector spot on the engine in the ricambi diagram

    Here are pictures showing the stock charcoal canister on Peter's 1975 US 308GT4 (the black crinkle painted box is a custom coolant overflow catch tank that he fabricated for himself, and he has removed all of the air injection components) -- in the top view photo, you can see the rubber hose 17 (coming from the 3-way valve 16 in the RH rear wheel well area) that connects to the bottom fitting on the charcoal canister:
