Hey, new to the forum. I wouldnt normally post here, but my car should be coming back soon and id wanna set up some races with some quick cars if anyone was interested. Im in ahwatukee, Az in case you wanted to know
First, why would anyone with a FERRARI feel they have something to prove against a TA, and second whats the point of racing a drag car againt a very pricey exotic thats not meant for 1/4 mile times. Very few people here give a damn about trap times and much more about lap times around road courses and the like. Youll have much better luck on a Supra forum or WRX forum where people such as yourself "live your life a 1/4 mile at a time." Mark
Dude, im just tryin to setup a friendly race. Im not tryin to prove anything, just thought it might be a nice challenge and get some good video footage. Ive already spoken with people on supraforums and ls1tech and will arrange some good races for fun. Thanks for the warm welcome...
Wrong Site Fellas ! As Joker said, Who Drag Races their Ferrari ??? They are NOT 1/4 mile Cars. However, some of my Z06 Brothers may : http://www.z06vette.com/forums/index.php? GOOD LUCK !!! You are going to NEED it.
Im not talking about drag racing. I thought ferrari's were supposed to be top end cars, 180-200 mph or so right? Thats ok, id be afraid to lose to a car that is worth 10% of its value too.(not directed towards you) And dont worry, ill have a handful of vettes to have fun with.
What about my RSX? I dont street race it and I dont come on here looking to try to race a Ferrari. Im here purely becuase I love Ferraris and like to talk about them. Not everyone with an import car uses them as street racers. Infact, I use to use it to go to organized track days on road courses which is where my passion for Ferraris truly started. Mark
i have had more trans ams , camaros and vettes than most people have ever seen in one place. "we" could care less how fast your car is and that its "10%" of the price of a ferrari or Lamborghini. on a track you will be lacking in the corners and a lighter , better handling car will eat you up. how many straights can you find on public roads that can sustain such high speeds? sounds like you have a nice car, i like the LS6 cars. but to come here and go "nanny nanny" is not the way to recieve any welcome. i have ferrari's and lamborghini's now because i can. if i wanted to have a fleet of trans ams and turbo MR2's ( had a bunch of them too ) i would. welcome to ferrari chat, but remember folks here dont care about "muscle car performance" . i would rather have a slow 25 year old ferrari / Lambo than any "fast" more modern car. many here are the same. we here share a passion of cars. at one time i had 6 trans ams here, all mine, all registered and insured. one day i woke up and wanted more. if you open your ears you may learn something here. best wishes. drive safe. MICHAEL
I think that just about everybody has wanted a ferrari at some point. I'm just saying you're defending the ferrari owners as if you were one. Don't get me wrong, I plan to buy one myself some day but owning a Ferrari really isn't as impressive as it used to be. To say why would a Ferrari owner have to prove anything is flat out elitist. Some car hobbiests are in it for road racing and some for drag racing and some for both. What if it so happened that an F-body (camaro/firebird) with a modified suspension and tweaked engine did come along. Then the Ferrari owner might feel a need to defend his car manufacturer of choice. Fourth generation F-bodies can get down to about 3k lbs without too much work and you can stuff 315's under each corner without any modification. Some simple suspension and brake mods could make it a somewhat noteworthy opponent. (I'm simply stating that it could easily overcome the 1g skidpad threshold I'm not trying to hijack here) I'll also agree with you that a Ferrari is a track car and it is a much better starting platform than an F-body. Just don't put a muscle car enthusiast below a Ferrari owner, you can't sit back and tell me that a billionaire who was into drag racing and wanted to mod something out would take a Ferrari over a Camaro or a Viper or a GTO etc. and expect to be taken seriously. PS I don't street race either, take it to the strip/track or don't do it at all. And if you're wondering, yes my nearly stock except for the Big Block drop in 4000lb '74 Camaro handles and sounds just like a speed boat.
Well, since you're already in GA, you should stop by the Atlanta Marriot NW next Memorial Day weekend for F-body Gathering 10. Should be at least 200 of us there.
I wasnt defending anyone, nor was I trying act as if I own a Ferrari. If i was I wouldnt have in my profile that I own an RSX. I was stating that your in the wrong place if youre only here to compare HP numbers. Those sorts of things dont impress people on this board. People come on here all the time just as the two of you did and make wild challenges to boost their own ego then insult Ferrari owners when no take their challenges. Throwing around words over the internet is worthless so I wont, but this board is for Ferrari fans to discuss just that, Ferraris. Not for people to come on and challenge races. As the Reaper said coming on here and boasting about what you have doesnt really win you any points. Theres no point in coming on here and trying to get people to line up against a race prepared car because I honestly doubt anyone would take you up on the offer. Mark
I didn't make any wild claims, I was just joking around. The thread starter simply was wondering how his car would stack up because he's just gotten this work done. I can tell you that he did not plan to come off as a braggart but it seems that he touched a nerve and came off on the wrong foot. Even if Hp is not talked about on a Ferrari forum, I can guarantee that a lot of Ferrari owners enjoy other aspects of motor sports and they may in fact be impressed by a 5.7L or 6.0L V8 that puts down 900 Hp or whatever. I know many people that drive Mustangs and Camaros that regularly have access to and/or own Ferraris and they still prefer seat of the pants acceleration to the refined cornering of an exotic sports car. Myself, I have always wondered how my car would stack up against a well tuned V12 or even the occasional 911 Turbo that throws a rev at me.
im not the one that came on with the insults. i simply asked if there were anyone in the area looking for a good race. As simple as that. Then the other guy comes here basically saying that he thinks that people with ferraris are above people with lesser expensive cars. If I had an 800 awhp evo like that one guy from ams and i came in here requesting a race on a road coarse, would i get the same kind of treatment? I would only have to guess yes based off of the remarks made so far. Like i said, i came here nicely and wanted some friendly feed back, but when you have someone make ignorant comments im not just gonna sit here and let you or anyone talk down to me no matter how you feel. I appologize if it came out the wrong way, just defending myself. The offer is still open if anyone does want to enjoy a nice cruise/race/whatever
i wasnt coming here to compare numbers, just to throw out a figure to possibly get people intersted instead of them thinking i had a stock car that wouldnt be worth their time.
Hey 2000 tran zam, try the drag race devils at ASU. Let me know if you want the contact info... I'll PM it to you. I know they have a couple of high hp drag cars and go out to the drag strip on a somewhat regular occasion. Meanwhile I'm working on a motorcycle engined single-seat, open wheeled formula car that'll run circles around all the drag cars :-D Hopefully it'll get up to 2.5-3 g's on a corner
Thanks for pointing this fellow in the right direction. If you live in Ahwatukee, you are 10-15 minutes from Firebird which has a NHRA drag strip you can run for $17, and multiple road courses that great clubs (NASA, PRO AUTOSPORTS, Porsche Club, etc.) facilitate access for street cars. http://www.firebirdraceway.com/06web/06_streedrags.htm Please, please keep your racing off the streets.
2000 tran zam & ChillPhatCat: Is there a particular website you 2 gents "live" at? Go ahead and provide some numbers. For example, what measured speeds/times are you getting in 1/4, 1/2, 1 mile, 2 mile...?
well, for the technical chat i frequent ls1tech.com for bull****ting around im on ls2.com in the bar n' grill forums for the most part. Heres a link to my dyno: http://media.putfile.com/947-rwhp-dyno-pull We blew the burst panel in the intake manifold on that pull, hence the high idle after the run. Heres a run that my engine builder took to the track: http://media.putfile.com/Track-run heres the timeslip. 60' 2.047 330' 5.414 1/8 7.872 MPH 104.07 1000' 9.920 1/4 11.60 MPH 135.58 That was a shake down run, only run he could get at the track before getting kicked out. Apparently it isnt easy driving a 4k+ vehicle with this much power and getting it to hook, lol. He said it was spinning pretty bad until past the 1/8 mile. Once i get my new shocks and tires on the car, i should be able to pull 1.5-1.6 60 footers and be trapping around 145-150.
ya, ive been to firebird multiple times. its a decent track but doesnt hook very well. speed world is quite a distance so im usually at firebird if i go.
ya, id definately be down, either way. I just need to adjust to the power of my car and learn how to drive it again. Should be here the 1st or 2nd week of january.
