In the last few days, I have been plagued with this problem. If I leave my PC on it eventually goes to power saving 'sleep' mode. When you come back after 10 minutes and move the mouse, it 'wakes' up very sluggishly. From then on, everything takes a really long time to load. It's driving me crazy! When I made a check using System Hardware and conflicts, it shows that the only item that could be an issue is my Bus Controller, it says ERROR 10, will not load. Any ideas on how to resolve this, please? Look forward to your expertise on this. Thanks.
I suppose that could be a solution but it drives me crazy not knowing what caused it and how to resolve it.
try this... right click on the desktop - somewhere blank, go to properties. display properties will show up. click on screen saver and then click on 'power' button at the bottom. this should tell you what goes to sleep and how long the idle time is before it does go to sleep.
It set at monitors to sleep after 15 minutes and the drives never to turn off and no hibernation. The problem is when I re-boot or restart, it will ask me to press F1, it then 'freezes' at the load-up stage. I have to shut down wait about ten minutes, then reboot. It will check C Drive tell me nothing is wrong then power up. It feels as if something is running in the background. BTW, I'm running Windows 2000. Any help appreciated, to 'track down' the cause. This is the second time it has happened to me. The last time was in November '04 when I had to reformat and managed to lose a big chunk of my files. Very Frustrating.
Yeah I wouldn't worry about what's causing it, not really that big of a deal. 2k is just relatively unstable and Dell's aren't the greatest things ever either... especially if yours is old enough that it has 2k on it. At the very least just never tell it to go to sleep. Or you could reinstall 2k. Or you could format and reinstall. Or you could buy XP. Or you could buy a new computer, with XP or new Mac OS or Linux... whatever you want.
