I think he is a savant or an drugs... http://www.break.com/index/spelling-bee-champion-on-cnn3.html
+1. some people are plain old ignorant, who picks on a twelve year old with an obvious learning problem online? personally i hope he does incredibly well in life and shows everyone that's picked on him a thing or two.
All of these kids are so bizarre. Remember the girl that won a few years back. She was super hyper-active and couldn't sit still. Are all these kids that have won home schooled? Not to be mean, but a lot of these parents that home school their kids wind up making them social retards. What's intelligence if you can communicate effectively with others?
learning problem? he just won a contest that reflects otherwise. he's got no problem learning anything...he just doesn't know how to interact with people. homeschooling children should be outlawed. he'll be the next kid that shoots up a college because he's a social outcast.
i'm sorry, i generalized, something that i really need to work on. however, i agree that homeschooling is not the way to go. booksmarts are only half the battle...
Home school and socially inept..no wonder he said he liked being at home.. couldn't watch more than maybe 30 seconds..tooo painful..
+100 Home-schooled kids seem to always been total social outcasts, because their parents never exposed them to the real world. I agree that some public school aren't the best place to raise a kid these days, but home-schooling would be a last resort for me.
The sad thing is that even though he is extremely intelligent, his lack of social skills will hold him back from ever being successful. He will probably spend the rest of his days in a cubicle for some tech firm and his nights winning online gaming tournaments with an inflatable girlfriend.
And that ladies and gentlemen is the rest of the story. This boy is so socially ackward no one in their right mind could work with him, hence why is probably wont be successful. And theres no way he is going to get laid.
Being able to spell a lot of words doesn't make you "extremely intelligent." Being extremely intelligent could very well make you a good speller, but we don't know about this kid. For all we know, the only thing he's good at is spelling. Then when he goes off to college (assuming he does), he'll realize spelling doesn't really matter anymore. I'm running auto-spell checker with FireFox.
i was a spelling bee champion when I was younger. true story. but i wasnt f*cked up. then again, I wasn't good enough to make it to ESPN.. lol. I won regionals a few times.
I did some spelling bees when I was a kid, and a lot of the other people were very strange. At the end of one competition, they had the top few people stand in front of everyone and answer some questions. We were asked about our favorite subject in school, and the "key to our success." Almost everyone said that they loved spelling, and that their advice was to "study constantly." This silly little game was their entire life, which I really couldn't understand. They (and especially their parents) were very arrogant about it too.
Did anyone see him on Jimmy Kimmel?? ROTFLOL at that.. Jimmy set it up so he would win and the kid was pissed and upset. I just found alink http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6iwD4PI47c
Found the first part of the interview.. Whoa.. Homeschooling outlaw +5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSojmWBwwnk
