Some people can't go fast in anything. Others can't get enough speed. There are those that are stupid and reckless and others that push the envelope with precision and respect the dangers.

For me, I get my speed with karting. I know my kart can go faster in big sweeping turns, but I can't push myself to go that extra 10%. It's 90% the fear of hurting myself and leaving 10% for mechanical issues.

Are you into speed, and if so, is your comfort level the same at 65MPH as it would be at 110+?

Before the revenue patrol started cracking down near a stretch of freeway in Sac, my comfort zone was 85 with ease in the fast lane. Not anymore! I've learned to "settle" for 65.

I have fun on some twisty back roads. I don't have to be going fast to enjoy that kind of driving but I do like getting close to the limits at times. On the highway I usually stay around 85-90 if there isn't a lot of traffic. In my jag I have to stay at 80 or below or I get this really loud annoying whistle that I can't track down.

I almost always drive the speed limit. I am comfortable at that speed.

The cars are capable of going faster and I like to think that I have some ability to drive them faster, but its the idiot in front of me that has no idea what mirrors are and can't seem to find a radio station to listen to that scares me.

Little Boy Blue keeps me within 10 mph of the posted limits at certain times.

Road hazards like soccer moms on cell phones, puddled water from busted sprinklers or man hole covers and potholes me from taking too many local curves at slip angles or passing people too fast. All else being equal in a perfect world (only F-chatters allowed to drive :D ), I'd rather drift around a corner in 2nd at 40mph then go 140 down a straight line.

The 308 with those POS Dunlops likes to try and swap ends on me so the comfort level with that car is waaay down there regardless of how empty the roads are on Sunday morning. I'd say 80mph max in that car as it is currently set up.

The Boxster feels darn near invinvible so the limits are higher; 110 to 120 on certain very well known local freeways with gentle sweepers but again, certain local roads can go to hell in with a single rainstorm.

I have an 85 Bronco on a lift kit with bigger tires and i don't even feel comfortable doing 55 in a straight line on a wide open highway in that thing. It is squirrely!!!!

The water and oil temp gauges absolutely overrule everything else.

For straight line speed I can do 80-85 in my car. Off ramps and certain corners I feel safe at 40-45 mph I don't want to do any thing higher unless I'm at a track where I can do it in a safe learning enviroment.

As for straight line in a truck or a minivan, anything over about 45-60 I feel like I'm being fitted for a coffin. I really get nervous if I have to there are corners in the road seeing how I think they will tip at the slightest thing (a myth I know but, seeing how I have driven sports cars since 17 thats where I feel the safest).

It depends on the car and the environment.

Rarely would I go above 90-100, but this is mainly due to the fact it an imprisonable offence (over 100) and most of the time the roads in the UK are to crowded to do so. Converely, I dont feel comfortable going 1 mph over 40 or 50 if there are temporary speed limits in place.

Non-motorway speeds, the speed limit is always my comfort threashold.

In different circumstances, I did 170 in a Gallardo on a private track and felt comfortable - there was confidnece in the car and the surroundings.

Speed limit plus a few in a car. Hard to get a thrill in a car.

Almost every time its out: Sportbike briefly to 110-115. More that that, 125-130 it gets a little whoopy on public road. Its amazing how you can roll up from 85-115 and back down to 85 in just a few seconds. We have little straight road that's not 4 lane (i.e. patrolled) so the little speed bursts are in only a couple of places.

    It depends what I'm driving.
E skeeter: Skidding around the mark at 80 mph is hairier than a 110 mph straightline speed.

you know when i was a bit younger, I didnt have a care. My first car ever was a 95 RX7T, that thing flew. But ever since a couple years ago, I slowed down.

But lately since I am learning more about my vehicles limits, and my skills as a diver have greatly improved , I push it hard, when there isnt many cars on the road. I will take a back road, even though i know it might take me longer to get to my destination, just becuase I want to push and have no run in's.

But I have been getting into karting lately, and it is great fun as well.

I've gotten the 33-ft RV with, car carrier in tow, up to 90...no other traffic around, of course. Knowing you need a 1/4 mile to stop 25,000lbs of hurtling metal is a rush. ;)

Normal vehicles in traffic, rarely over 80. I don't need no stinkin' tickets!

Usually within 10 of the posted limit.

On the bike, on a deserted two-lane country road, may bump it up to 15-20 over if I am really familiar with that stretch. Short bursts over 100 if I have visibility. It is a short ride into the Ozarks, at certain times you might only meet another car every 5 miles or more.

Never go more than 10 over on Interstate, especially on the bike.

Whats my comfort level regarding speed?

If your talking about how fast I drive on average on the highway that would be about 75 - 85mph. But the only reason I keep it that low is due to fear of the pigs passing out road tax bills.

I am comfortable cruising at 150mph. The Daytona handles that speed without sweat. Slow down for corners of course, but long straights are comfortable at 150 just cruising down the road. The wind noise is a bit loud, but the car is rock solid.

Speed and a comfort level is a relative thing. I would feel no discomfort at all in the Daytona going 175mph on a long deserted stretch of straight highway. I feel a great deal of discomfort at the razors edge of tire adhesion going 115mph at the track out point of turn 12 at Road Atlanta with the concrete wall only 15 feet or so to the outside of the track! I have been absolutely terrified in heavy traffic going 60mph when some moron is drifting between lanes paying no attention at all to what is going on around them.

Depends on the car and road. I feel much safer in my M5 at 140mph than I do in my BB512i at that speed. In fact, I feel safer in my M5 in the mountain twisties too. Come to think of it, why do I even own a Ferarri anyway?

On typical country roads with corner set speeds, I usually have no problem doing double what they say, or even a little faster sometimes, but I am talking speeds of between 50-80mph. But that is ONLY if I KNOW there is no one in front of me.

On straight highways with smooth curves, I have been known to push it up to 130-140mph for extended periods. But again, there must be NO ONE in front of me, and me not having a passenger. I will not endanger anyone elses life in my adrenaline junkie ways.

If you are in Texas, everyone *loves* to drive 65 in the left lane. Even when the speed limit is 70. I can honestly say I have never seen such brain-dead driving. Wow.
