My grandfather used to drink it all the time my dad said, and I started drinking it after my dad got a bottle for my 21st birthday. My dad received a gift card to Spec's liquor here from a client for retiring and they asked if I wanted Jack or Turkey.

Had to go with the opposite of the norm.

Lots of good suggestions in this thread! A small glass of Woodford Reserve for me this evening.

Good thread. Mine favorites are Bulleit 10 year and Bookers (if I need that stronger stuff). Both are around $50/bottle. Basil Hayden is another favorite.

I have shelf full of options... many of what's mentioned, but I usually go for Knob Creek or Bookers for something with more kick.

I, definitely, can enjoy Bookers. Knob Creek, however, always had my number.

Maybe shouldn't admit it but our go to inexpensive bourbon is Virginia Gentleman. I think it's very respectable and not far behind Knob Creek in taste plus slightly lighter at 80 proof. And for ~$22 for 1.75L it's a steal.

Noah's Mill is back in stock by me but it's 25% more expensive and not quite as good (based on memory, I think it's been a year since I had any), but still worth it.

While in Cincinnati (at Jungle Jim's), I picked up some Larceny.
Been looking for it for a while. Good but not striking. Noah's Mill is still the leader of the recent purchases.

Larceny is decent for cheap stuff, but I didn't like it enough to keep buying it.

After a couple of bad bottles of Noah's Mill, it seems to be back to the high quality bourbon it was when I first started drinking it. Great stuff. I just picked up another bottle.

Tend to agree but as I bought 2 bottles, it will stay in the rotation for a bit. Tried Redemption, found it to be an enjoyably sweet drink.

Anyone try anything new that's noteworthy recently? A thread in Silver got me itching to add to the scotch stock, so I may look for a new bourbon to add as well. I am running low.

^ I really enjoy both of those by High West. Been drinking Campfire for a couple years.

Was in Park City last month and tried a couple others. The Mid Winter Nights Dram is exceptional but seems to be sold out and only sold in Utah. Comes out each winter.

I saw 2 bottles at ABC on Friday and I bought them both for $33 (each) plus tax. Spectacular bourbon, maybe my new favorite. It's got a lot of depth and the finish is sweet. I think it's aged 10 years but it tastes like it has been aged 15 at least. I'll be on the lookout for more.

I have tried to learn to like scotch, but I have had to accept the fact that I just don't care for the smoky flavor. Either that or I haven't tried the right scotch. So I remain a Maker's fan for a nice every-day drink.

Different thread but try an Islay scotch next time. You can almost taste the ocean. I like Laphroaig.

That, or try some of the other regions that have significantly less smoke, such as a Highland or Speyside.

Scotch is amazing with the many different varieties. Ask the folks at your local shop for what you like.

Basil is great. Eagle Rare is another one close to it.

    Others I've had/still have/etc.

Defiant: tastes like hay and grassy sweet. I'm in a love/hate thing with it.
    Larceny: okay for being inexpensive.
Jefferson's Ocean: one last drop there.
Russel's reserve: I like it as a mixer.
Templeton Rye: excellent alone or in a cocktail like a Vieux Carre (if you like manhattans, look it up)

I found larceny to be a bit harsh. I didn't enjoy it.
