My mother's family came over to the US in the early 1600s from London. My dad's family came over here in the mid 1700s. So we are well established over here. I know that there is some German and English, but not really sure what else. So for all purposes, I am an American simply at this point in time. I know a lot of people, especially in the Chicago area really hang on to their heritage and identify others with it, and rightfully so...but this is something I'm giving up and moving forward with just the label of American. It's been too long and my roots have been lost.
Part of my family came to Virginia in 1609 from Oxford England (Stephens, Holloway & Carter), part came to Virginia from Italy in 1635(Taliaferro), another part came to Virginia from Switzerland(Funkhouser) in 1740 and another part came to Virginia from Germany(Henkel) in 1740. So I guess I am a English/Italian/Swiss/German... Heinz-57..
Damn Yankee But going way back... from the Åland Islands http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%85land_Islands
english and german, we apparently moved to the states from england sometime back in the early 1800's, and migrated to england well before that, my grandparents have done a lot of research, but i haven't had a chance to see what they've found yet.
