    Hey everybody,

It has been a long time since I posted something here. Does anyone here have or knows anything about EURO Spec Fcars? Based on my knowledge and research I know they are less expensive due to the fact they have to be adapted for US Specs. Willl you guys buy one at the right price? The one I am checking has a US VIN and according to the seller it has been converted to US specs. Any recommendations? Thanks

If it has a US VIN, it was built for import to the US and is therefore not a EURO or anything else. If it has a foreign VIN, it needs to have the DOT compliance papers. I would not buy a car that had been converted but not yet registered in CA, myself.

I would buy a non-US car for the right price.

The relative value of a non-US spec car depends on the model. If we are talking Boxers, none of them were built for the US. To buy a 430 without a valid warranty, the car would have to be deeply discounted. How much, I'm not sure. For me, a pre 1975 (smog exempt) vehicle that was not originally imported to the US would be less of an issue than, say a 2000 360.

There is a TON of fud on this subject. Most written from hearsay not from actual knowledge. Do a quick search on my threads and you will find lots of information. I have '01 360 Spyder that is a euro. I jumped through the hoops to register it in CA.

Primary reason for the discount was warranty. Euro's aren't covered for warranty or campaigns. They are covered for recalls. If the car is out of warranty the difference starts to evaporate fast.

Obviously I would buy one, I did. I would be glad to provide information if you need it. Just post or PM me.

As for US VIN. Hate to disagree with Dakharris but you can have a US VIN but be an import. I believe that Dubai and UAE cars can have a US VINs; those countries also get euro VINs so it is mix and match. Not sure if they have to have any modifications to meet US spec or not. They may be a direct import with only customs and paperwork. Either way you will need the DOT and EPA paperwork.

Thanks for the info guys...I will definetely look into it. Well, it is a 1998 550. It is an older model, so I guess no warranties :(
Now... I have compared prices with a US car with similar year, model, millage and they are about 10-15k in difference. Does this mean I can go lower in price?

I did not know that, but it makes sense. There are only 26 letters in the alphabet, but more countries to export to. I guess my "ugly American" perspective swayed me there. Would it be safe to assume that a car with a US VIN would meet US spec (leaving the factory, prior to aftermarket mods), even if it wasn't imported to the US?

You would have to save a LOT of money for it to be worthwhile.

Forgetaboutit!! It is not worth the agita. I did it -never again Especially since the 550 has been so depreciated that the savings on the cost of the car cannot be very significant.
