Someone fitted 15mm wheel spacers to my 260 Modena in the past. I am slowly trying to "de-pimp" my car and with that in mind I bought a set of standard wheel bolts on Ebay. To my delight they were just like new.

What confused me though, is the "presentation box". I asked the seller for some history, but I didn't get any answers. This box is something like you might expect if you buy a fancy bottle of wine or some expensive Cuban cigars, not wheel bolts.

Why in the world would Ferrari package spare parts like this? My oil filters don't come in a "presentation box". And, especially as these parts come as standard on the car at the factory and most cars live their entire lives with the original bolts, why would Ferrari produce a box like this? After all, it's not like ordering a set of shields. Or, perhaps it's not really a Ferrari box.

Can anyone shed light on what seems, to me at least, as a rather odd way to sell something as ordinary as wheel bolts.

The price charged might be an indicator.

Nothing you buy from Ferrari has a cost similar to any ordinary car and some Ferrari parts prices are downright silly. But this is the first time I've run across ordinary spare parts in a "presentation box".

They are very nicely made, but they certainly aren't interesting enough to keep on your coffee table along side your box containing a matched pair of antique dueling pistols.

Now I'm wondering if the box originally contained some wildly expensive Ferrari factory titanium wheel bolts, the purchaser had a shop install them, and then the shop sold his slightly used original bolts to me in this fancy box.

Has anyone purchased Ti bolts from Ferrari in such a box?

No, but clearly the box should be displayed on the mantle above your fireplace. :)

Ferrari uses this standard box for many items, typically cosmetic enhancements found in the dealer parts boutique where they want to catch your eye. If you buy the non-yellow center caps (red, black, titanium) they will use this box. Titanium bolts also use this packaging but include a key. I see in your package the foam where the key would be has not been removed. They probably package the regular bolts like this as well.

Why does the watermark on the photos say, "Genuine Porsche Parts?"

I purchased these bolts from a Porsche shop in England. I presume they service Ferraris too, but I don't know for sure.

The price was good, the shipping instantaneous, and the condition was better than expected. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn these bolts were installed once at the Ferrari factory and removed only once when they were swapped for something else, perhaps Ti bolts or wheels with spacers.

I think I have seen the titanium bolts packaged like that. Maybe the original steel bolts were put into that box. For the price they charge for the titanium bolts they should come in a box made of gold.

That's what I'm thinking now. The cutout for the removal key (required for special bolt heads) is filled with a piece of foam, so perhaps the box originally held some kind of fancy bolts with an ordinary head.

That is the presentation box used for titanium bolts from Ferrari. The indentation at the top is for the torx removal tool. Not sure why you were presented standard steel bolts in that box. There is likely a part number and hologram decal on the back.

You paid for the box and the bolts were free.

I can't say that I can see the big mystery here! :The most obvious answer would be that someone has ordered Titanium Wheel bolts and had them fitted to a car and then the standard bolts have been put in the box and resold.

Well, it just makes you feel better when high quality things are packaged correctly.. no matter what it is.

If they just came wrapped in bubble wrap with a sticker on each one, I'd wonder about them.

    :)

I saw a box of titanium wheel bolts in the botique/store of Scottsdale Ferrari before they moved up north and they were in a box exactly like that. I think the logical explanation has previously been stated where someone bought titanium bolts and the original steel ones were put into that box and shipped to you. BTW, I would have to sell my truck to be able to afford the titanium ones in the store.
