I have a few cracked wheel caps and have a new set of 4 on order. Is there another way to remove the old ones without scratching the wheels? I want to keep one or two good ones as spares. I was told to take off the wheels or drill them out, but I thought I’d ask our guys on the chat that may have done it before. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I don't know how well they are mounted..... but my guess is they just pop in. If that is the case, I think you can drill a small hole in the center of the cap, then stick a good size wood screw in there and use pliers to pull on the head of the screw. The cap should pop right out.

They can be in there pretty tight....

When I replaced mine, I ended up taking the wheels off and using the handle of a hammer to knock them through, and then a rubber mallet to put in the new ones.

I removed my wheels for refinishing last year. I just pushed them out from the inside to get them out. I used a hammer handle too I think. That is the only way you can 'save' them. If you try to get a screwdriver behind them, you may damage the wheel. Just take one wheel off at a time and pop them out. The new ones push in. They are just a firm fit and I used just my hands. I think my big cannons help me there. ;);)

There are two types of wheel caps for the 355. One type has a circular clip that clips them in. The other type presses in. Use a large circular object like a large socket to drift them out from the back of the wheel. Dont use a screwdriver from the front to pry because they may split on the edge. Ask me how i know;)

For the pres-ins, this is exactly what I did. Its not like you have to hit them THAT hard anyway to have them pop out.
I had a harder time inserting the new ones; destroyed one in the process before figuring it out.

All good methods ...............but..... I think the OP wanted to leave the wheels 'in situ'.................... right ?

Drill??? They pop right out from the inside---No drills...They are no different then 90% of the stock wheel caps out there... Mine had a plastic cap that seats down in the wheel center from the inside. It has a lip on it. Use a needlenose plier and pull it out. Then gently tap the back of the cap itself outward and it will pop right out..

Thanks Guys, my old ones were all cracked or faded so I drilled a small hole and pulled them out with a screw. If you squeeze the new ones at the flange a few times they'll go in a lot easier. I tried and tried on the first one, then almost got out the rubber mallet......don't do it. They'll crack real easy and you sure can't find just “1” anywhere. If you have the time and want to save a few of them, take off the wheels, but if not, drill.

As I understand it, "late" 355s use the kind with a clip on the inside of the wheel. From the front, you can't tell, so you have to take the wheel off. Here's a photo. -Steve

All good ideas, but you can spend a dollar at Home Depot and get a suction cup in the tool department. Stick it on and pull.
