Dear all friends, One of my HRE wheel has some "shadow, smokie dirty marks, spots " appear on the polish lip, and i can't put them away with 3M metal polish. Please help..........i did not use anything else but normal car wash soap to wash the wheel ( car ). Billy
there is a metal cleaner in the form of 'steel wool' that can probably get it out. i forgot the name of the product, but it looks like housing insulation (cream-colored), and when u rub it onto dirty metal, it turns black. then u just wipe it off with a microfiber cloth to polish.
Do you know if the lip is "raw" aluminum - or if it has a clear coating to protect from weather? If it is raw aluminum - you can polish it out. If it is clear coated - polish will remove the clear - and you will have to have the wheel refinished. Easiest way to determine if the wheel is raw aluminum is to take a mild polish and rub the lip. If you get a black color on the rag - it is raw. If the rag has no discoloration - it is clear coated (paint, clear powdercoating) S
