I'm getting ready to restore a set of Speedline 328 convex wheels to as close to factory original as i can, and I have some questions: 1) I've seen some 308/328 wheels with the raised "Ferrari 7.0 x 16" cast lettering highlighted in black. Which ones had that vs just the raised letters without the black? Would the Speedlines on my 89 have come originally that way? 2) For the wheels that have the raised black lettering, is the black on top of the clear coat, or underneath it? 3) Was the original clear coat glossy, satin, or matte? Can anyone post a close-up picture of a wheel with raised black lettering please? I'd like to match the look if I can. Help is most appreciated. Thanks!
Can't recall ever seeing that on stock 308 wheels (nor 328) -- either bare raised letters or black letter flat decals (but always looking to learn more). Could be custom hand-painted, but that would be a lot of careful work as the raised cast lettering has sloped edges and radii.
No original factory 328 wheels had the raised cast lettering in black, it is that simple: original factory wheels always had raised cast lettering in the same silver as the rest of the rim. However, keep in mind that the bulged front wheels of the "Série 2" 328s (those after #76626, with the revised suspension) are exactly the same (dimension, offset, etc...) than those of the "Mondials 3,2" and are fully interchangeable... And the rims for the "Mondials 3,2" have the "Ferrari 7.0 X 16" in black lettering, but flat, not raised; and it is a decal. Rgds
Okay, thanks. I've seen the stickers and i've seen plenty of the cast lettering in silver, but I also have seen a close up picture of the raised lettering in black, so I thought it was factory. I guess the one I saw was done by the owner.
Dave: I can reconfirm that 328 wheels do not have black lettering. Please let us know how the wheel reconditioning turns out...I’ll need to do the same thing soon. Before and after photos would be hugely helpful. good luck, Alan N.J.
