Give Kevin Stroms a call. He is the owner of S&L Metal Restorations on Lamar in West Babylon Long Island. I have known him for 20 Year and does excellent work, prices are fair with quick turn around. Tell him Ben with the Diablo SV recommended you. He is a down to earth all around nice guy. 516 343 8824 .
Thank you very much, Ben. I called him and left message this afternoon. I really appreciate for your help. Yoshi
Try USA Wheels in Fairfield, NJ. I've used them and they are great. They did a friend's 355 wheels, better than new. http://www.usawheels.net/index.html
There is only one place to go, the best! http://www.wheelcollision.com/ They did an AMAZING job on the rim for my BMW X5.
Thank you very much for you guys great information!!! I'm trying to reach Kevin now. If I couldn't reach him, I'll contact to both shop. Actually, I have 2 extra speedline rims for my 355. Both rimes are same style but one is chrome, another one is black, and have similar problem on 1 rear for both of them (I'm selling on eBay for chrome one now). I was not sure if I (or someone) can fix for bent rear rim (chrome one) so I was little nervous to selling it. I just started to research for "fix rims" and seems it's ok to repair it at local shop!! (I thought I have to ship it to italy to fix it... I didn't know) I'll bring black one to shop and ask them for the cost if I want to refurbish them. (problem for black one is not "bent", leaking air..) Again, thank you very much for your information but who is lady on left side of http://www.wheelcollision.com/ ? She will REFURBISH for mine?? lol
LMAO... I know, I know the website has a bit o' cheese factor with that pic! I swear buy these guys. They can repair bent or broken rims. My rim looked better than new!
Funny, I've been there a couple of times but I don't remember anyone there that looks like that ... ;>) Bob S.
Thank you, Ben. I just spoke with Kevin and I'll bring it them tomorrow. Good communication, good community! Thank you!
I've done several wheels over the years but I've never taken a MAGNESIUM one in for repair or even just painting. I have some very lightweight racing wheels that are magnesium and I have refinished them a couple of times using a zinc chromate primer with various top coatings of paint. If you're having them powder coated I'd be curious to know how they prepare the wheels before the powder coat. Magnesium is very susceptible to dangerous corrosion under that coat of paint if they're not prepped properly. So it would be interesting to to find out if they use any special anti corrosive technique or if they just blast & powder coat them. Can you let us know? Thanks Bob S.
Hi, Bob. Are you talking about like these pics? These examples are not mine. I found them on other site. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yup. That looks like what's happening in those pictures. I'm not familiar with what those wheels are made from but I'm guessing it's a magnesium alloy? Were those powdercoated? Bob S.
These pics are 355 original MAGNESIUM rims but it's not mine, I don't know what kind of finish they did. Actually, I dropped off my speedline rims @ Kevin's shop Last Saturday (he is extremely nice guy as Ben said). I found that my rims are ALUMINIUM, not magnesium (I thought it's magnesium because I see "Mg" engraving on back side of rims but "Mg" was parts#.... shame...) I showed him these pictures and asked him about magnesium repaint, he said don't worry for that kind of problem --- I may bring him my other 355 magnesium rims shortly. We'll see.
Don't worry? Well not with the aluminum but what does he do with the magnesium ones? He has to do something. I'm just not familiar with what powder coaters do for this that actually works. Bob S.
