Well, I christened the F355 this morning....scraped a curb with a rear wheel. I haven't done that in many years, so of course I chose a FERRARI wheel to practice on...nice. The wheel itself is fine (meaning I didn't break anything or bend it), but I scraped it up pretty badly.

Since I want to continue driving the car, I need to purchase a new or reconditioned rear wheel (vs just sending this one out for repair and waiting). Any thoughts on sources (I'll check eBay and the classifieds here and on the Ferrari Club site)? Also, any thoughts on who in the DC metro area does excellent wheel repair work? That way I'll have a spare in case I do something stupid like this again.

    Thanks!

'Ye Ole Wheel Shop' does good work from what I've heard. Not sure where they're located but will try to find their ad and let ya know. Might be listed in the phone book.
They advertise regularly in AutoWeek, also.

Check out Wheel Worx in Millersville, MD (410-969-7282). They are very pleasant to deal with, and most importantly they were honest with us. They didn't scratch the wheels when mounting the tires and took time to explain what was going on with the wheels. Long story short: if you center bend your wheel that is a big problem :(

I would give them my business again with out a second thought. Good luck

I have used wheel worx with great results for a damaged GT-2 wheel. I also used "Ye ole wheel shop", they are a "rip off" shop, they damaged a rim (996TT) installing a new rear tire, the tech admitted to me that he had done it, but the owner refused to stand behind it. I think they are now closed.

Sorry to hear about your wheel. I would be interested in knowing how this turns out as I have a couple on my 355 that need refinishing from when I purchased the car and FOW was playing wheel swap with other cars. I had them put new center caps on them but did not notice the chip on one and the scratches on the other. Would be interested in how long and what they charge. --Bob

Also sorry to hear that. I've actually had FoW fix scrapes on our Maserati wheels, they've done a fine job. Might want to give them a call, too.

Edit: You might think about buying an extra set of wheels - take one of the new set and put it on the car. Take the scraped wheel, and the other three, and put slicks on them. Not that I want to get you in trouble, or anything like that.

FoW has done an excellent job of fixing scrapes on both my 355 and 550. They're definitely worth considering.

I would probably check FOW first since I've heard Ferrari wheels requires a special machine to safely remove the tire without scratching the outer surface. (I was at a repair shop where the owner showed me the machine. Not sure if this is true or just BS).

I've used Ye Ole Wheel Shop for a curb incident 2 years ago. They did a great job with my non-Ferrari wheel. I think it cost me $70. They are still in business and I usually have them install new tires on my wheels every 5-8k miles.

I just used wheel worx to have my 308 wheels redone.... they did a good job... Price was very reasonable. Just be sure you pay special attention to the condition of your rims (take pictures) before you send them and when you get them back.
