Hello, does anyone have an understanding if the wheel well liner material (felt) that is stock on a Ferrari 296 GTB can be replaced with a a hard plastic material or possibly be replaced with materials from a challenge car?

The wheel well liners of all four of my wheels has been damaged due to track use, and I need to find a more sustainable replacement. Thanks !

Thanks very much for asking. I only have one picture currently, but it shows the material over the vents on the rear side of the wheel well being damaged. But the top of it is damaged as well.

The race track was COTA and it was 30 minute sessions broken up by two hours each for a total of 5 over a weekend.

I do not have good pix but I also had to replace both sides (rear) after one day at the track. I did probably 5 sessions. Probably a total of 100 minutes.
Cost of replacement is not too expensive but I would also be interested if there is any chance to have a more durable solution.

See if warranty will cover it. This is not meant to be a consumable like brake pads or rotors. I've never had wheel well liners perforate like that during track days. It looks to be a sloppy cutout. After replacing them, maybe have someone 3D print a vent overlay and rivet it over the vent area. Another option would be to rivet or screw (with pronged tee nut backers) on a stainless wire mesh over the vents to stop the rocks from blasting it.

Thanks, terrific ideas!. I’ll have the Ferrari folks inquire about them possibly being covered by warranty, I haven’t asked them to look into that of yet. But I know the damage has been caused just from marbles from the track days.

doubt ferrari will cover them. poor design. should be more stout. never had an issue with my R8s. disappointing for a sportscar of this caliber. i'll update this thread with my experiences. how much did they cost installed?

Yes, I totally agree, poor design. Of all the other Ferrari’s I have recently inspected at the dealership, this appears to be the only one with the felt material.
I haven’t had to pay for the replacement yet because I’m looking for alternative options since I’ll continue to do track days with the 296 I expect.
