Hello All; Was always curious/interested in the effectiveness of venting/louvering the fenders to excavate/remove wheel well pressure build up. I am interested in any information as to what kind of pressures are built up and at what speeds, plus I really like the look of louvered/vented wheel wells.....Mark

    no pressure here!

Always interesting to see the rain spray sideways out the front wheel arch of DDs. Must be a big aero drag. Sorry - no specific numbers to share.

The pressure built up in the wheel well due to the direction the front & rear tires spin (clockwise), thus creating added lift and high speed instability. If you look at specifically the FXX cars and take notice of how highly the cars are louvered/vented, to reduce any pressure build-up in the wheel wells......Mark

Tires spin clockwise? Not when viewed from the left side of the car. Oh well, that doesn't make any difference anyway? A fender louvers primary function is to give the exit air from the brakes (for cooling) a place to go. That increases the brake cooling effectiveness, and decreases pressure under the fender. The louvers can also kill increased lift over the top of the fender. They also induce drag and are typically reduced in area on high speed tracks. The spinning of the tires is a minor consideration, if any.
