Anyone watch the 308 dino episode of 'Wheeler Dealer' last night? Was good fun.
Missed it! I thought it would air on the 28th? Anyone know when it will be on again? The Discovery site is not of much use. TIA.
It'll probably surface on youtube fairly soonish. For those who haven't heard of the show, The basic premise is two guys: Mark, the lardy 'geezer' buys a rough classic for his weasel-faced pal Ed, a very talented mechanic, to restore to sell on for (at times) a surprisingly small profit. Can be very entertaining.
Ed China seems a good bloke to me, but that Mike Brewer is a real Polish a Turd merchant I wouldent buy a weelbarrow he had been involved with? I know its only for the TV, but I watch it as a mechanic of 30 years and it makes me cringe.
The expensive front bumper was pranged but I don't recall them mentioning that. Maybe I missed that bit. I don't recall they explained the reason why this Ferrari had a 'Dino' badge on the nose. Surely some viewers might have been confused.
My TV guide shows that the 308 episodes will air again tomorrow night! I assume Discovery Channel Europe has the same programming for the UK as for The Netherlands.
I 'bumped into' mike and edd at the NEC car show last weekend. They seem like nice guys. If anyone's interested that Dino is back up for sale (the previous sale fell through). They said they'd take 12k for it and to contact them through the show. (No affiliation, just passing on the info).
Based on what goes on here.....I was naturally expecting them to be obsessing over belts, but it was never mentioned. I suspect that if a forum user posted pictures and description of that car here, the majority would say..."run, don't walk." Which....this may be true and not everyone has an "Ed" that they get thousands in labor from so cheap. So it would be different for a normal person. And yeah...that Mike guy is certainly the raconteur. I found it amusing that Ed was saying..."it's one of the cheaper one's," then their both calling it a 'super car', 'hyper car' in almost the same breath. It was interesting though, I've watching it twice. I just KNEW he was going to talk about cam belts when he took the wheel off.... But these guys are basically flippers. I would not want to interact with the Mike guy in a sales situation....seemed way pushy, even for a Brit. Even the normal maintenance standards understood as 'given' on this forum seem to be in another dimension compared to these guys. And....no one here would ever call a 308 GT4 a "supercar" either.
Duane. You're kinda missing the point..... although nowdays 6.7 secs to 60 is not considered "supercar" performance, back in '74 when these were launched they were the equivalent to a 456/612. Do you hear people saying an early Muira or Daytona is not a supercar? I'd happily take on either round a track in my GT4. All of the above would be blown into the weeds by a Focus ST.... but what does that mean? Absolutely nothing.
Well, IT IS a Dino, isn't it? So what? Dinos are among the prettiest and nicest "Ferraris" (GT 206s and 246) or "Fiats" (i.e. Fiat Dinos) anyway. I think they were badged Ferrari from 1976 onwards. In other words, it's a Ferrari that Ferrari didn't want to call a Ferrari... Cheers, Gabriel
it's a pity that the "Dino-Ferrari" story seemingly has to be told repeatedly though; should be part of one's automotive ABC. Gabriel
A bit defensive there. I was merely pointing out that Mike kept calling it a Ferrari and some viewers may have been confused about the Dino badge on the nose.
