Has anyone used 'Wheels America" in farmingdale? I have a couple of chrome rims that need to be repaired. Thanks.
I have but it was for straightening an older Gotti rim that I use at the track. So I can't talk about their finishing capability. They did loose the wheel for about a week so it was a bit of a hassle. My impression is that they're a budget high volume place.
No experience with Wheels America... I can only recommend Wheel Collsion Center in Bath PA. http://www.wheelcollision.com/ They have refinished several sets for me with no disappointments.
I have used WoA in farmingdale to both finish and straighten the wheels on my old 355. For the price, they do pretty good work. The only problem is that you need to send them your wheels. Also, when I got my wheels back, it was 1 to 2 shades darker than the original color. Otherwise, I'm very very happy with them. Some of the local "exotic" dealers use them for their wheel work and will turn around and charge you $1,000.
That shades darker issue is a problem that I and others have had with some refinishers. I recommend you check with Gus at Technik 1. He knows of someone who does flawless work.
Ive used wheel collision in PA as well but they werent able to fix my rims. They were 3 piece SSR GT3's and said they just couldnt be fixed.
I had used them a few years back and as far as refinishing they do good work and because I did not want to take a chance on the finish not matching I sent them all four wheels to get done so that I would not have issues with the wheel color matching. Now let me tell you my gripe with them I had two wheels which took a bad hit one was bent and the other had a crack. The one with the crack they rewelded but the weld was not good and leaked air ........ OK...... now I had to dismount the tire again and send it back. Second time getting it back we mount up the tire again and check it in the tub and it still leaked. This is just the one rim that was cracked the other rim that was bent and repaired also leaked and the tire bead never sealed tight enough to stop it at this point they offer me a refund on the two rims because they were not able to repair them. Ok but they dont make this rim any more which is why I tried to repair them so I ask what good are two rims gonna do for me. I want a full refund which they said no to. By the way I was able to bring them my tires and wheels which saved time so if your close I would call them to see if you can drop off.
USA Wheel (or Wheels USA?) in Fairfield, New Jersey. I've used them as have several others I know and they do an excellent job and prices are fair. I had a bent Gotti rim straightened and cleaned by them not long ago. Came out good as new.
Double ditto. They completely refinished 4 (count 'em!) scuffed 2-piece 19" AMG/BBS rims, two with a serious dings, for less than the price of one new rim.
I had my rims done by these folks last year (April ish). I wanted them powder coated & the entire rim. They gave me a competitive price. The outside of the rims looked good, but the inner well (that is over the rotor) was covered in embedded hand prints, grease, and partial paint. 1 week later I had a significant paint chip/flake come off. They refused to do anything about it. 6 months later, more chips/flakes appeared. The inner wells have paint bubbling up. I serious doubt they powder coated like I had asked them and they simply painted them. My recommendation: stay away.
Good information, thanks Clyde. BTW, I have used Precision Wheels with top-notch results. One time they sent a wheel to me that was a little too dark. They took it back, and redid it perfectly, no extra charge, no questions asked. http://www.precisionwheels.com/
