I've ordered a number of parts for my 308 GT4, the worst thing that's happened is waiting a while due to shipping from another country. However, today I hit my first problem—a part that's not longer made. I'm sure more will arise in the future, but this is my first!

Discontinued, no longer available, cannot order, does not exist. It's a small rubber gasket in which a pin inserts.

What do you folks do when you need a part but it simply doesn't exist and can't be ordered anymore? Here's what I'm looking for, I need two of them, just in case anyone happens to have them laying around:

    40065005 - Guarnizione Perno (Pin Gasket) x 2 - [308 GT4 Parts, TAV 113, item 12]

Create them or if you can scan a part digitally and print it with a. 3d printer.

Could you not make it from a piece of rubber hose of similar ID to the OD of the metal pin?

Unfortunately, that's not possible! There's two that should be on the car, and on my car one was completely missing, and the other disintegrated when touched.

I think that's what my painter/restorer is doing, I told him the part is non-existent and no longer made.

Thank you for this, I hadn't heard of these folks and I love collecting sites with Ferrari parts. This is great, even if they don't have what I need!

I looked when I was buying seals for my car and found nowhere that sold that item.

If you can get me one I can scan and 3d print a mold. Something like that is easily done but I need an original or at least the dimensions to draw it in CAD.

Unfortunately, not possible! The car should have two, but one of mine was completely gone, and the second disintegrated when touched.

However, I have a pretty cool update.

I bought most of my seals and gaskets from dinoparts.com, however, they don't have this particular one. No one does. I've called eight stores, visited three mechanics, and sent at least a dozen emails. The part is simply no longer made, cannot be ordered, and no one has any NOS. In the past, I've noted a couple of things that needed some updating on dinoparts.com, and they added/corrected those right away… so I emailed them about this part. They promptly replied that I was correct (no longer made or available anywhere) but that they can make it. So they're working on making the part, and I suspect they'll be adding it to their store after I confirm it works/fits appropriately. They even included a screen shot of a 3D rendering. Those folks are fast and impressive.

If dinoparts.com hadn't come through, you could hand make (or 3d print) a mold and then pour the parts from a number of materials. I am always surprised how well stuff like that comes out.

I am curious what the part is used for on the car?

This is not from my 308 but from a Mercedes I'm presently restoring. There was a NLA rubber gasket on part of the bumper. I even found two substitutes at a hardware store. Went with the one circled in red.
Many times a similar part from a car can be modified to fit a NLA part.

It's just a small seal that helps hold the rear side windows in place. There's a pin that goes into the window trim, and into the body. The seal sits in the body and the pin inserts into that.

As Beta indicated in post #14, I'm fairly confident you could find a part that would work fine at a local hardware store like Lowes/HD or an auto parts store in the section where they have various fitting for body parts/trim. Is the part visible from the outside? If so, that's a different problem but if it's simply a matter of function, it seems very likely that a commonly available part would do the job.

    Well deserved. :)

I have found something else that doesn't seem to exist… if you want to tackle this too (it's another piece of rubber). But this one is more interesting as it's nowhere to be found in the parts manual for the 308 GT4 (although it may be used in other models too, thus could already exist… but I can't find it).

I'm sure I could find something similar, or glue something in place that would work just fine, but it's always nice to have the correct part.

When removing the door panels, there's two rubber buffers that the window will rest on when in the down position. Here's a shot of the door with the panel removed, and you can see where those parts sit:

Mine are a bit worn in both doors:

Interestingly, the parts manual doesn't show these parts anywhere in it (this TAV 109 from Dino 308 GT4 1976… I also checked 1979, not there either):

I carefully removed one of the better ones in my car, took some pics:

It's round with a cup and stem. I used a caliper to measure it, although the part is pretty deformed, but the measurements should be accurate (or close enough):

It's not the most important part in the world, and might be easy enough to find something else. I just like to see correct parts… even ones the factory seemed to have missed in their manuals!

It looks like the closest thing you have is this, but I don't know it's size so not sure if it would work:

Might be item 33, 40195703, in the 1979 308GT4 SPC on TAV 109:

    https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/Diagram/Ferrari/308-GT4-Dino-1979/109-Doors

Unfortunately, MCP don't have photo for it, but it's used on a bunch of other models, too (but not shown in the 1976 SPC so that seems like a mistake, but MPC has a note at the bottom of the 40195703 page "Also fits 308GT4 Dino 1976").

Don't see it on their page, but this company:

    https://www.cicognaniguarnizioni.it/Ferrari-163/dino-208-308-gt4-163-l30

makes a lot of rubber F parts (and is in the right country ;)). Good Hunting!

Well looky there! That is indeed the part. That's so weird though, I swear I looked through the parts manual for 1979 as well and I couldn't find it. Thank you for that, at least now I have a part number.
