Whan are you going to be satisfied?

Have you heard this from your wife or significant other? I have been a carguy my whole life and have had so many cars that I can usually find common ground with anybody who likes cars. Growing up in Texas I had a small group of friends who liked sportscars too. That has changed some in 40 years, seems to expand considerably. My reply for the above question has always been, never.

    Great answer!

Me, I'm thinking of doing a swan dive into the deep end by heading to the track. Wish me well!

I wish I was too, but I am heading for the family Christmas party (38 people). This is where I get harrassed for conspicuous consumption. Once again, it doesn't bother me in the least, I just rev up what ever I brought when I leave.

The answer to "how much is enough?" is always: "one more than I have right now"

I'll be satisfied when I become frustrated shopping for my first Ferrari.... I'll just worry about one for now lol. And this one doesn't count.

When people make remarks about my comspicious consumption I tell them that I am supporting a whole squadron of mechannics. I do this by letting them charge breathtakingly expensive repair bills for my car. So it's not consumption, it's support.

Yes, I hear it a lot, because I've had a lot of cars. But I'm close to being satisfied. I like what I have now (328 GTS = my favorite Ferrari that you can actually drive on the road, plus a nice but not overly-ostentatious daily driver Audi TT.) I'd like to get a three-car garage and add an old Porsche 911S, but I'm in the happy (?) position of finding virtually every modern car made kind of boring (even Ferraris :().

All the good stuff was made while Enzo and Dr. Porsche were still around. Now it's all plastic and video screens.

I like Dale's track idea and would like to enter that 911 in some vintage events.

I hear it all the time. However, since I got the 430, I've been thinking about it. If you don't let the tires get warm, and you set the traction control on sport, full throttle in the 1st two gears is just another way to smoke your tires. You don't even want to think about full throttle when turning (or exiting from a true) at low speeds even when the tires are warmed up. I was easily able to slide the 348s, the 355 when driving hard. The 360 was a bit twitchy, and now the 430 is probably well beyond my competency when it comes to going really fast. Terrible to say, but true. I can work the Mondial t (It's basically a 348, with a little extra weight) decently, but frankly the 430 is a bit scary.

Terrible to say, but I think that these cars are beyond most of us. Way beyond. Hopefully, the next version will have more electronic aids, so that we can drive them better. Interesting to note that the MotoGP bikes all have electronic aids, and that makes them quite a bit easier to ride. Rumor is that the next version of the street 1000s, and 600s will have a version of that electronic control for consumer consumption.

Your response should be, "When will you have enough enough shoes?"

I married the right woman. She has never asked me when I'll be satisfied. She likes the cars, and the fact that I always buy well, sell well, and buy well again.

And I ALWAYS ask permission to buy or sell, even though she has never said no. It's just a respect thing.

Being asked this question especially by my wifes family (not my wife herself)...though i would think she has mentioned it to them. My answer over dinner was very simple with everyone present.

"When i signed that piece of paper to marry her, it said i was allowed only one wife...it never said how many cars i couldn't buy" ;)

The table was pretty quiet after that, and i havent heard otherwise since :D

So you noticed that, eh? I don't care what they (who ever they are) say, the F430 is probably the best sports car on the planet. It is light years beyond the 360. I want one bad. But I'll probably wait until the 430 Challenge cars get a bit more reasonable. :)

Let me clarify that the question arises only afterwards. My wife was raised a Catholic and she says it's all part of some denial routine she went through. I don't have that problem. My garage is referred to as the Garagemahal because it was custom made just to own and work on cars. I have 2 other garages to house the normal vehicles. She does ask if I'm happy and I always say 'yep', until next time.

    Yes, I do this too!

The terrible thing about this is that at one point in my life, I probably could have driven it well. Getting old sucks, but there are compensations.

Actually I am satisfied with what I've got - on all accounts. The Dalai Lama says the way to happiness is to let go of desire for things and I think he's right, although I'm not sure he'd approve of my approach of achieving your dreams and then saying "Enough!"

Tell her as soon as she pays for it you will be satisfied, otherwise you'll just have to keep swaping them out until she pays the bill.
