Usually it takes a couple of races before we hear about them but are there significant updates scheduled for this weekends race? Ferrari and McLaren are behind, very slow, can they make enough improvements in a few days to catch Brwan GP?

Is anyone in the "know", has anyone read anything on the net or in newspaper about this, did the SpeedTV guys say anything?

Sorry this is just a guess but either when they have a large break (2 weeks or more?) in between the races or when they are back in Europe again so most likely Spanish GP.

There might be a few small tweaks to the aero package for this weekend but i would not expect anything major from Ferrari or McLaren until the first European race. It already looks like Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Red Bull, and Renault are all looking at new diffusers at the moment.

+1 And the interesting thing will be since testing is banned during the season the only time they'll be able to test and develop any new bits will be on Friday practice. So the racing should (I would think) be fairly close for a good part of the season. Brawn will be hard to catch but I've got a lot of faith that Toyota and Williams will keep them honest as the others catch up.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Thanks Gents.

The reason I asked was, Ferrari, Brawn and BMW all brought new bits to the track Friday... things they tested during the winter and now that there is a ban on testing during the season, they only have Fridays to try new components. Brawn brought {I think} a new nose, or new winglets on the front wing, Ferrari brought an altered rear wing and BMW brought a new front wing design. I thought maybe these teams and others had more items to try on?

P.S. I just read McLaren won't be challenging for a podium this weekend and they admit they "lucked" into a podium in Australia.

I've done all the calculating from Australia and Brawn GP has a .450 second advantage on the closest competitor in race trim. Qualifying is more of a crap shoot since all of the other cars will be at different speeds, with in and out laps, different fuel loads etc.

So the question is after all the teams make their "0.200 second improvements" before the next race, can RBR, STR, Toyota, Renault secure their 0.200 second improvement while gaining some ground on Brawn? A half a second a lap can seem like a lifetime of failure.
