    I'm confused.

I thought you're supposed to do a timing belt change every 5 years, but my car had a Major service done 5 years ago, so I thought I only needed to do a Minor now.

Yet looking at the list, http://emelbon.tripod.com/eugeniosferrariservice.html I see now that timing belts are not in the Minor service.

So when do you do a Minor service? When you cross 15000 miles? Otherwise it's ALWAYS a Major service every 5 years?

Sorry if this sounds simple, but I'm confused.:(

    Thanks!
    Wes

That may be from the 'horse's mouth'..........but in my 20 years of Ferrari ownership, which includes doing my own service work.......I've never waited less than 5-6 years between changes. Every time that I have changed them, the belts look, feel and were pretty much tight and perfect.

I think FNA likes drumming up extra service work for their dealers. At $5k+ a pop...they are doing a great service at pumping up revenues.

I know this topic has been talked to death but, I agree for a car that is not a garage queen, somewhat regularly driven 3 years is bullsh*t. I've done several belt changes on various Ferraris over the past 20 years and all done at 5 years or more and all the belts were in excellent codition. If the car has not sat alot or raced heavily I think 5 years is adequate if not somewhat overkill. It gets down to what you personally want to do. If three years is what you want fine, if five is ok for you do that. Regards, Vern

I agree that it's been talked to death, and I read many of those threads before posting, so I hear ya man.

It's just that now I don't know what the point of the "Minor" service is. If I have it correctly, you do a Major every 5 years, then when (if ever) does the Minor come into the picture?

I'm getting ready to do a Major or Minor next week, and thought the Major was every 30,000 miles, and the Minor every 15,000 miles or 5 years, but I guess it's the Major every 5 years, right?

I tried to call Eugenies, but the answering machine is on and I'm from out of state, so I don't think he 'needs' those calls.

As a disinterested spectator, I will say that my anecdotal observation has been that early belt failures are almost 100% from a mistake made by the mechanic. I think if you drive your car and oil isn't leaking onto them, if they've lasted 1-2 years, they'll last more than 5 easily.

Like Jimmie noted, minor is every year (even if low miles) or 6000 miles if that comes up first. Major with belts every 3-5 depending on use.

Thank you very much. I'm clearer on it, but one thing remains.

What's with the fact that they say to replace some belts in the Minor.
Change belts every year? Here's part of the Minor list

    -Change Transaxle Gear Fluid
    -Replace Fuel Filter(s)
    -Bleed Brake Lines
    -Replace Coolant
    -Replace A/C Belt
    -Replace Alternator Belt
    -Replace Water Pump Belt

The Euro book says 24 months for most of them (echoing the timing belts) as opposed to the 12 months for oil & filters

    Owner's maunual has a Chart.....follow the Chart.........

Or NOT depending on your individual risk tolerance.....it's that simple!

As far the v belts, it notes inspection, replacement as required. The water pump is pretty important to engine health, as well.....

That FNA Bulletin would superseed The Chart, but could also be deemed a little excessive, IMO.
