i was just wondering what the members of this board thought about this topic, this is my first post, ive been lurking the threads of this forum for months and have read many interesting posts from very interesting and educated people. Im interested in knowing what you guys think. For example to me the F40 (being my favorite Ferrari) is a classic, not just because its my favorite but because of my age. Im 23 years old, so the car has been around ever since ive been interested in performance vehicles. So i ask you, what makes a car a classic. Id also like to know what you think about a car being an "instant classic", is there such a thing?

According to ferrari chat there classic section includes 512m, those were made up to 1996.
I would say a classic should be 30 years old, but thats just me.

I think that there is such a thing as a instant classic. There are several cars that fit into the category. I think what classifies a car as a classic are its timeless quality. An F40 is a good example for some, it has good lines, and is a car that will remain in demand for a long time. Another great example of a classic is a 250 GTO. Most people would agree that this car is beautiful, and will remain so throughout its life. It is an instant classic because when it came out, its lines were just as beautiful as today. That is just my opinion.

To be considered as a classic, one must survive in its field for quite long & being popular all those time.

For Ferrari, I classify them in vintage, classic, & modern. So 308/328, 512BBi, Dino're classic to me, anything before is vintage in my view.

On F.chat there will be alot of crying ,Bitc** and denial when the new 360 replacement comes out next year and the 355s are no longer classed as modern, and there for resigned to the classic section of F chat. I suppose it will curve any snobbery among some 355 owners.I wonder if 512m owners were pis*ed when there car was put in the classic section from the ofset, the 96 512m is younger than the 94 & 95 355s, Doesn't bother me any though.
