Option 1: I shall drive it around the USA. West to WA, South to NM. East to FLA and back to NJ. At that time I will need to arrange pit stops. We are talking some time late 2007 maybe early 2008. It would be an unbelievable trip if one or more Dinos joined in. What d'yall think of that.
I think plenty of us would join you for short legs, 2-3 hours maybe at a time. I am always ready!! DM
I can pretty much guarantee that a bunch of us in Seattle would be more than happy to tour with you when you make it to the Northwest - I've got a lot of great roads in mind in Washington and Oregon . . . . Mark Nerheim
I have a bunch of picchers and a story from 1985 that I'll share at some time. But it was always my intention, prior to coming stateside, to drive from London to Moscow.
That's a great Idea, Niagara falls bunch of Dino's absolutely! Of course that means Dave will have to join in the return leg, unless he fancies a little jaunt northwards!
Why not come to a Falls that is taller than Niagra, just 30 mins East of Seattle and has a 5 star restaurant and hotel at it? Snoqualmie falls http://www.snoqualmiefalls.com/ Or take a scenic drive over the famous Tacoma Narrows bridge to the Olympic Penninsula and stay at one of the Grand lodges from early last century http://www.visitlakequinault.com/ or drive up to the largest building in the world to see where they build the 747's? http://www.boeing.com/companyoffices/aboutus/tours/ or Mount St Helens http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/mshnvm/ All are within a mornings drive. Best time of year is July to August
Thanks, looks very inviting. This is great cause I have driven around the states 5 or 6 times and flown to most cities and have never really seen anything other than roads and airports. I did have great Chili at the Hoover Dam, or maybe I was just hungry. But the ribs at the Montgomery(?) Inn just south of Cincinnati were the real thing.
How long do you think your trip will take? I love road trips. At an earlier time, I would have joined you all the way without a moments hesitation. As I'm about to get hitched, I'd have to run it by her. And the odds of being your wingman for the entire trip are slim to none. But it never hurts to ask. If I plant the seed now (and be very very good), who knows...
Great Idea! And since I'm about to retire-retire, it's a real temptation. My wife would totally understand and give her "blessing." But I've got to ask . . . have you ever driven a Dino non-stop (except for pee breaks), oh, let's say , 300 miles? She and I used to do yearly trips in the Dino to the SCCA Run-offs at Road Atlanta when we were stationed at Columbus AFB, MS, 25 years ago . . . about 300 miles, as I remember, little traffic, radar detectors were really effective (no lasers) great fall weather, etc. Upon arrival, we would literally roll out of the Dino and spend 5 minutes trying to straighten our spines. Back then I was in really good shape flying AF jets for a living. Those seats are definitely not designed for distance driving. How about this for an alternate idea: Put the Dino on a trailer and drive from Ferrari event to Ferrari event around the country, start in the Spring, end in the late Fall - - track event one stop, rally/tour the next, then a concours, party at another (or, hell, party at them all), back to a different track the next stop. The FCA NEWSbulletin lists all the events in North America. One Big Lap Around America. Whadayathink? Bill
Hmmmm..... I've done quite a few 500+ mile days in my Dino. I find the seats comfortable and the car a pleasure to drive long distances. It may depend on body shape and size.
Hit the philly area early May. come to the FCA PA-NJ-DEL in Reading. Usually 5 or 6 dinos there. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I plan to be at the NE events as much as possible. Is there a list of upcoming events posted somewhere?
Will be travelling with the missus, getting the feel of how long it might take and best time of year, route to take, pit stops etc is one of the reasons for this thread.
I don't think I will be able to arrange to be away from the business for six months, certaily at least one month, if set up right two maximum three.

Bill, Should have read about the FCA newsletter........ I think I'll drive it, hopefully not from one Ferrari service dept to another! The One lap of America is what this is about. But stopping to enjoy some of it! I mean there must be more to IOWA than a days worth of Corn, which is all I've seen. As for long trips, I've logged most of my Dino miles between England and Italy, stopping for the Channel ferry and eats. Generally I drink a lot of water when driving, so every two hours I have to stop for a few minutes. Having said that, I recently drove my daughter's new Golf from NJ to Denver in 32 hours, with 3 hours stop. Felt great!
Check this URL for all FCA events in all regions . . . a rolling update thru the end of 2006. The regions do their planning in Dec - Jan and usually have their calendar of events completed and posted by March. Lots of really great events all over N. America, whatever your pleasure. Definitely not a stuffy bunch! http://www.ferrariclubofamerica.com/calendar.cfm Bill
Drive my Dino to Las Vegas all the time. 400 miles, one stop for lunch and gas. From Santa Barbara...101, 126, 14, Pearblossom Highway, 15. Coast, Mountains, Desert, Freeway. No problem any time. Average 22 mpg at 80 mph. You will do fine. Plan to spend a couple of days on our beaches. We will show you around. John
