Tons and tons of excellent point of views and expertise on here, many by gentleman who have lived through ownership and really understand these cars and their intricacies. I feel blessed to have access to guys who know these cars so well, and can help quell the frustrations of a younger, eager, but limited individual such as myself.

I want ownership to better encompass enjoyment. For me, enjoyment comes from relative realiability. Reliability comes from ensuring the car is working properly and sorted out well. And staying on top of sorting it means paying the bills associated with exotic car ownership, even if it's using cross-ref parts, it costs hours in the shop, and these add up. So, that's the formula, and it is not an inexpensive one.

So, that leaves me at a juncture. Continue to enjoy and drive, but on the premise that if another major break occurs, the funds simply won't be there to fix the car until down the road.
Stare at the car, and warm her up, driving a few times a month to keep things going. And do this until I can better afford maintenance objectives (I feel like that's a terrible way to keep a car).
Or, sell my car. Pocket some cash, and wait until life makes more sense to actually enjoy a car. Every time I've wanted to have her out, Caffeine and Carbs, Lime Rock, a local show. Somethings crops up, and I'm sitting on my couch on a Saturday morning. Enough of those weeks strung together. Then it's winter haha, and she's lumbers for 5 months.

What to do. What to do. You guys have provided a ton of info and lots of scenarios and info, and either way, it's much appreciated.

With these older model Ferrari's, I feel you need to have a very high degree of mechanical abilities. My impression with a stack of receipts from the previous owner, the very good name brand shops were totally taking advantage of him. Just plain sloppy workmanship. For one example, R/H valve cover leak, mechanic fix, calk valve cover with silicon sealant, over torque valve cover hold down nuts, price $600.00. The list goes on and on, greater then $25K.

My TR is just a relaxing toy for me, by trade, I work as a licensed aircraft mechanic. Having completed my own major, incorporating a firewall back restoration. Basically zero timing all the major systems. Brings my point, to get these cars at a very high state of reliability, everything needs to be disassembled, cleaned, inspected, restored, reassembled and finally tested. The previous owner was a bit frustrated over the same circumstances. Money and downtime, wondering were that next break down will happen. On the positive side, my TR is as reliable as my wife's 2016 Toyota van.

Don't give up. Everyone has their opinion about the Mondial. I bought my 91 cab to go next to a 430. The feel,of the cab with the old school gated shifter and smell of the leather was epic. My father had one and for me it was childhood. There were issues and I don't do any of the work myself. And nothing w as inexpensive. I never resented the money. I never expected to get it back. But putting my kids in the back and driving would make my heart smile like nothing else. We like something because and we love something despite.

At the time I thought I was moving to Chicago and had to downsize and sold. Turns out I didn't. Not a day goes by without regret and I keep looking for another.

Frustration comes from failed expectations. You have to reset your expectations. Take the long view. It's a process. Theres the joy. Unfortunately your story is not unique with some mechanics better than others and many of our cars with deferred maintenance, aging parts, and rolling needs.

While the Mondial may not be "fast" in my life it's not been how fast you go but how you go fast.

    Hang in there.

Thanks Scott. I do appreciate the perspective. But I thought a lot about it this weekend. I'm going to sell my car. I want to focus on other things at the moment, and those things are going to take my time, money and focus (I hope to "launch" what I'm working on, on FChat sometime within the next month or so) and now is just not the time to be dealing with a vintage car. I'm ok with it, and have come to terms.

Thank you Paul and Dirk. You guys were both excellent helpers and motivators, I just can't justify it right now. I want to focus on other things, but I'll be back :)
