I've noticed this year that my garage can get quite hot. In fact the temp hits 32-33 degrees Celcius mid afternoon. My question is whether this will along term effects on my Ferrari which sits there most of the time except for weekends. Has anyone actually installed
A/C in their garage ? I've been contemplating this, but maybe I'm worrying for nothing.
What are your thoughts on this ? What have some of you done to alleviate the latent heat in your garages??

hehe, 91F is not so bad. Garage?? man, youre lucky its not in the sun! Its the sun's uv rays that destroys cars, not so much the heat. yes, given alternative I would prefer say, 65F, but hey, we have to make do with the cards that nature gives us.

Id say, unles your car doesnt stay in 110 deg F, not to worry.

I can't speak for the 360, but on a 328, the engine bay sits around 85-90C (about 190F) when the car is operating.
The forward section (with the radiator) isn't much cooler.
(Don't carry ice cream in the rear storage. :p)

Automotive grade electronics should be rated up to 125C.

About the only really temperature sensitive component in the 328 is the power transistor for the variable speed AC fan --- and that's mounted on the AC evaporator unit, to keep it cool. ;)

Your after-market stereo, amp, radar detector, recovery system, etc., may be another matter.

Italian beauties like it hot :)

But without kidding; I would worry more about humidity. How much ? And about change in temperatures ( condensation ).
Once I also had a garage, which reached temperatures like yours in summer. And during or after a rainstorm humidity rose up to 85%. After getting aware of this I bought a dehumidifier and set it to 60%. It was amazing, how much water it separated out of the air. During hot and humid weather periods I had to empty the 5 litres reservoir every second day.
If it gets too damp it affects all metal parts.
If it's too dry, it's not so worrisome, but not so good for your leather.

Today I have my cars in my house. max. 24°C in hottest summer weather; 10°C in winter without heating. 50 - 60% humidity without any technical help. So I don't need no more dehumidifiers or A/C. But if I ever have to return to a separate garage I would again go for a dehumidifier. A/C also dries the air, but I think the cooling capabilities are needless.
If you want to work in this environment, it's a different issue.

That is also an issue. It gets so hot in there that I don't feel like doing anything. I have to admit that this is only during the summer period. In the winter, I maintain the garage at 13 degrees celcius and I jump it up to 16 degrees when I do work in there. As far as the heat goes, I guess I'm more concerned with the leather interior and other heat sensitive parts.... Thanks for the input, just thought I'ld put it out there...

    Cheers!

From my own experience - Humidity is the bad thing... rust, electrics and mold in the interior are the result.

I got caught in a down pour in my old 308 one summer... the brake fail light went on and would not turn off... carpet was mildewed - all from 30 min in the rain and 4 days of 90% humidity afterwards... the car was moist for weeks... especially under the trunk area where the electrics are.

Me thinks one worries too much because it's a Ferrari. Does anyone worry as much about their daily driver??

A Ferrari is a machine; as is a Chevy, Ford etc. Does one worry about mass produced cars; I think not!

If a car can't stand the rigors that 'everyday' cars can endure, is it worth it to spend thousands of dollars more for a car that needs to be pampered and worried about?

In other words, don't buy an 'Exotic' if worrying about every aspect of owning one keeps you awake at night.

Again, it's only a machine. If you don't abuse it, it won't abuse you!

Yeah, it's a Ferrari and It's my trophy. So yes I do question everything cause I like keeping my cars in top notch shape. My '02 coupe looks in better shape than some 430's I've seen and the next owner will appreciate that just like I appreciated that last owner who had the car... Our summer has been warmer than usual and the latent heat makes me question whether or not I should remove some of this heat so that the leather nad rubber does not dry up. I have the same concern for my RRSC that has more leather per sq.ft than my F360. Do I stay up at night thinking about this? No...Is my car a garage queen? No. Do I like pampering my cars? Yes. Preventive maintanence, that's all it is...

    Happy motoring!

    +1 !
While I give a sh%&t on my daily driver and all what matters is, that it runs, my classic Alfa and Ferrari 308 receive the best maintenance and care.

Would my daily driver Volkswagen make so much trouble - related to the kms I drive throughout whole the year - like my '72 Alfa and sometimes the 308 it would get kicked into the trash can.
But the italian cars ? Forgiven.

    Best Regards from Germany
